Wideman is really living up to his name in this preseason. Every freaking shot goes wide. Hoping it is just fine tuning the shot with preseason, Gio is also having issues hitting the net.
Baertschi had a strong game. Love his battles on the boards so far. Every game he shows that vision and passing ability, it really is high end. Berra had to make a really good save off of one of his shots, he got it away quick, it was hard and on net. It's fairly obvious that he has been paying huge attention to the defensive side of his game, he has been backchecking tenaciously and finishing his checks. The interview after the first was great, the comment that Hudler says Sven has as much skill as anyone hes ever seen was pretty cool. Sven saying that Hudler is really hard on him, pushing to make him a better player every shift makes me very happy.
What can be said about Gaudreau that hasn't been said countless times already? He just controls the game with the puck on his stick. Fast decisions, a step ahead of everybody on the ice. Going to be amazing when he gets consistant linemates that can anticipate what he is going to do. He may just force his way onto the team, regardless if the plan has been to send him to the AHL all along. Game breaking skills. Loved the interview with him in the second intermission. So humble and happy.
Diaz is strange. Can look so good in the O zone and then look so horrible in his own zone. Seems to read the play so well in their zone and then just brain dead in our end. I don't get it. Need to see more from him to figure out what we have.
I thought Acolatse had his best showing thus far. Made a couple of tape to tape stretch passes with a checker breathing down his neck plus a couple of great defensive plays. Another guy I'd like to see more of to get a handle on what exactly he may be.
What a game by Bouma. I don't think I've ever seen a guy more deserving of an empty net goal. Really turning into a high end 3rd line checking winger/PK specialist.
Cool to see Jooris with another very solid game, really came out of nowhere for me. Certainly a pleasant surprise.
The future is bright Flames fans.

Watch Wideman play. He's got that look of disinterest that people at work have who are just doing the bare minimum to continue cashing a paycheque. Only he's getting a $5M paycheque.
Backcheck? Nah.
Hit a guy with your shoulder in the corner? Nah, I'll just stick my bum out.
Pass to someone open? Nah, I'll just take a high slapshot and decapitate someone on my team.
The sooner this plug gets shipped out, the better off we'll be.

It's preseason and he is a 31 year old vet.

When he signed here he was probably expecting to be playing behind Iginla, Bouwmeester and so on for the length of his contract.

So tell me who replaces this so called "plug"? None of our young guys are remotely ready to be full time NHLers. Wotherspoon and Sieloff are getting there, but still need a lot more time. Wideman isn't nearly as bad as some people are describing him, he's a one dimensional, offensive minded, PPQB Dman but we've known this all along. Hell, we knew this when he signed his deal, but let's not pretend he's a bubble defenseman. It sucks that he was injured a lot last year but pro-rated to 82 games he still put up 37 points. Maybe not deserving of his current salary, but tell me, who of our prospects are ready to immediately jump in and replace those points? I know, he leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive end but he is by far the best option we currently have.

Don't know what happens to these guys all of a sudden. Same comments could be made of Glencross and Setoguchi, which is also a problem for us.
Setoguchi sure, but where the eff is all the Glencross hate coming from? I'd say he's looked quite good so far. Yes he has a history of being hot and cold and has a real poutface going on when he is cold, but presently I have no issues with Glenny.

Amen. How about we see how he looks 10 or 15 games into the (hopefully healthy) season.

So now that Butler is gone, it looks like one of Dennis Wideman, Curtis Glencross and Devin Setoguchi are going to be the target of CP. Oh if Raphael Diaz makes it, he'll be another target here.

Don't forget about Jones.

You and I are probably part of the few old enough to remember Kent but I have to say I believe Johnny see's the ice better, different era I suppose but Kent was a 45 foot player IMO. abit one of the best ever!
P.S. I actually played with Kent twice (he was re-habbing from a broken leg at the time) and he scored 7 goals for us

Considering Butler just cleared waivers while on a minimum wage contract maybe the fans weren't so wrong about him.
Now, about Setoguchi...

I disagree with 31 years being a "vet age" and valid excuse for a disinterested NHL hockey player. They are paid a fortune to be keenly interested and working their a..ses off on ice during games for our entertainment sake, for their own team sake and for their employers' sake, exhibition or regular season.
