Yes, I was the only one upset about Sven being benches before Colborne.
Quite the memory. Your excessively long post will probably get a dozen thanks.
Nik- brought up the same subject not 2 weeks ago and nobody disagreed with him. What has changed since? The person posting?

Disappointed to see another forward signed. I guess I have to wait for injuries to see the future Flames.

In so few words, I said in that thread that if Gaudreau was not going to sign with us (there were rumours that he might not, none of which I "panicked" about), that the Flames should trade him in risk of losing him for next next year.
That is not panic. It is logic, and it was the consensus in that thread.

Good signing. This helps the Flames pathetic RW depth.

Good low risk signing especially since we really need some RW depth

Score one for Aunt Seto! This feels very much like a Coyotes-type of signing.

Pretty much all upside minimal downside.
I was suprised when I checked his stats that he's 6'1" 205lbs.

Nothing wrong with this. If he has a strong year, hopefully he's worth a draft pick to another team at the deadline.

I like the signing. We need competition so young players who aren't ready are pushed back to the AHL/CHL. No oiler approaches here!
Look, I'd love to watch our young players in Calgary but if they can't beat the competition then they don't deserve it. The players being brought in aren't all over-the-hill players, win at all costs options. They are mainly filling holes or depth players.
We have shown that if older players don't perform then they will be moved out (Jackman, O'Brien). I'd bet on at least one trade after or during the pre-season though. Either to create a spot or because we have seen enough of a prospect and are ready to move them (Like Colborne).

The only player whose chances are hurt by this is Emile Poirier, and I think he needs this year in junior to develop anyways. No big issue I don't think. If one of Gaudreau or baertschi is truly ready they'll be on the team regardless, and theyre LWs.

This is a no risk good reward type signing. If Flames prospects aren't ready, then it's not a problem. If Seto has a decent season, we can flip him at the deadline. Win win.

He's out with his shoulder healing from surgery until late November anyway. Not sure if he'll even be in junior when he's healthy, or if he'll play in the AHL where he finished up last year.

It drives me crazy when I see crack smokers say that Johnny G. will be playing in the AHL.... They didn't fly him and Arnold in on the corporate jet this spring just to send him to the A this year. The kid is world class and probably our best player... Give your heads a shake... And quit talking about his size!! whew...got that off my chest

It's a perfect signing. Even separated from Jumbo Joe the guy was a consistent 20-20 player up until last year. There's no risk, he either comes to camp prepared and motivated and bounces back or he doesn't and he loses his spot. I would be wary of his motivation if this was a long term contract, but 1 year at near minimum? Can't see any complaints.
The Flames still have one of the weaker forward corps in the league, if the young guys can't earn their spot they shouldn't be given a spot. No reason to Edmonton this up.

It seemed it was the consensus, and there was a poll to confirm that.
sign after Frozen Four ------------------------------------------------------------- 387 -- 84.31%
go back for his senior year and the Flames will trade him ------------------------------ 10 -- 2.18%
go back for his senior year and the Flames will sign him after -------------------------- 35 -- 7.63%
go back for his senior year and holdout to sign with someone else Aug 15, 2015 -------- 27 -- 5.88%

He was one of the UFAs I hoped we'd take a punt on. My opinion shifted a bit when Mason Raymond was signed, but I can't argue with the term or salary. Nice to add a RH shot.
For those worrying that this means Gaudreau won't make the team: don't despair. If Johnny Hockey plays well enough in camp there will be a space for him. A vet may need to be traded sure, but management and the coaching staff aren't going to forsake the kid just for the sake of it. Regardless of these veteran signings , I guarantee the best possible Calgary Flames lineup will be assembled for 2014-15.

Man, I love your enthusiasm and I really hope you're right but I've never seen someone love a prospect as much as you love JG and stick up for him as much as you do.
Also do we need to re-run Jersey #22 poll again? Seto has to be included no?
