I would stop watching Flames games if he came on board, I mean he is 15 years past his best calling, it is painful to listen to him now imo.

I don't listen to games on the radio too often but Derek Wills sounds like a good one.

Joe Bowen is scaling back his responsibilities with the leafs and Toronto is a lot closer to Hamilton. So may not be us.

It's painful to listen to you. Show that man his due respect.

If Derek Wills becomes the Flames' PBP guy, I'll poo in my hand and throw it everywhere. Can't stand his goal calls at all.

You can say he deserves respect, but his point is valid. I would never want to hear that Bob Cole was coming to be our PBP guy. He's embarrassingly bad with names at this point, he's just too senile.

I can put up with it in the playoffs to hear that legendary Bob Cole game call when I don't care about the teams. But to have him calling the Flames at this point in a rebuild where we're all desperately clinging on to the success of dozens of prospects who are in and out of the line-up, night to night and have a senile old man that would constantly get their names wrong? Hell no.

And as me and AC starting pointing out on a nightly basis during the playoffs, the Bob Cole defenders can't even stand behind "Well, he gets the names wrong but who cares, his call is amazing" anymore.

These playoffs there were multiple examples, nightly, where the play would change quickly and he wouldn't even recognize it. The play would be going up ice and there'd be a turnover for a quick break and quality scoring chance the other way, but if it happened too quickly Bob literally wouldn't even mention that it happened. It was so weird to watch.

I have a lot of respect for the guys that do these jobs. You're under a lot of scrutiny, especially in a Canadian market, and nobody's getting rich doing these gigs. You have to do it because you absolutely love it.

The new radio PBP guy will suck because he cannot possibly be better than Maher and new TV PBP guy will be awesome because he cannot possibly be worse than Kerr.

I have rewatched game 7 between Chicago and LA three times solely because of Bob Cole's work.

I can't stop repeating this, but if you're as good at your job at 80 years old as Bob Cole is at his, you are LYING. Bob may not be perfect but he encapsulates everything that is wonderful and romantic about this game. And if you can't do the math on that, I don't know what to tell you

Do what math? I know how old he is, and it's great he made it this far. But he's simply becoming too senile and old for the job he was legendary at. It happens.

I'm not disagreeing with the fact that he's legendary, just pointing out that he gets names wrong quite often and has trouble following the play and that's simply something that would be ridiculous to introduce to Calgary at a time when knowing all our new players and what they're doing on the ice is key.

Bob Cole is like Bob Dylan.
He may not hit the notes quite right anymore, and he may not have the details down the way he used to, but it's still Bob Dylan.

Peter Maher wasn't all that great at the end, and some of his stories were hard to follow, but he's still Peter Maher. These guys add to the entertainment, their part of the package. Certain guys may lose the little things, but they are still incredible at adding to the entertainment.

Let's snag Dean Brown from the Sens and then everyone will be happy.

Actually your Dylan comparison is quite apt, as he's known for his amazing music in his early years, but his shows now a days are sparsely attended directly because everyone knows he can't even come close to performing the songs people love.

There's a reason a musical legend like Dylan gets a less than half full turnout at the Dome every time he comes here.

EDIT: Review from one of his saddledome shows

Quote:
Within minutes of launching into his first number, someone in the audience muttered to his friend, "I can't understand a word he's saying."
Well, that's Bob Dylan for ya.

Dylan didn't dig into his timeless classics too much. This meant warm, not thunderous applause (with the exception of such encore numbers as Like a Rolling Stone) at the end of most tunes and rarely did the crowd show a spark of recognition, even with faves like Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again.

What's funny to me is that even in his early career people said he couldn't sing. Even so I've been a big fan but I've never seen him live but if his voice has gotten worse, maybe I'll pass if I get the chance to see him.

Listen to this performance at Letterman's 10th anniversary show. This was years ago and he was brutal back then. His live voice isn't bad, it's practically unlistenable. For extra awkward points watch everyone else in the performance stare over at him with a "This can't be serious" look. They literally can't even keep happy performance looks on, they're just like "OMG, I can't believe this is happening on national TV and I'm part of it".

He wasn't a lot better singer in 64. Still love him though.
