It's pretty obvious the Flames will likely have to trade to fill some of their defensive prospect needs which isn't a problem given the amount of skilled smaller prospects available to move.

Absolutely true. However, given Bollig's contract, using him for cost cutting is like trying to find enough pennies to pay the rent. Chicago's still got some hard decisions to make.

It's not even an option for the Flames to have 2 or 3 guys who can fight right now and Bollig is more than that.
We will have at least 3 rookies every year for the next couple seasons and our defence corps is as soft as butter.
Look what happened to the Oilers, one bad goon for a couple years, guys who couldn't play hockey and were out there on their own trying to protect 10 kids. Taylor Hall destroyed in a fight and badly injured, Samwise broken jaw and a lost season. Multiple concussions from guys getting run.
The only reason their other kids like Eberle and Nugent didn't get injured is because they are such pansies they wouldn't stick up for themselves against a pack of 12 year old girls.

I don't view the 83rd overall pick in this draft as a key pick for the Flames right now.
I love the draft also, I just think Bollig fills a need with the Flames right now and can help protect our smaller skilled prospects as they develop. He's also not just the typical dime a dozen goon, he's actually useful in many ways on the 4th line.

Its his job to skate around pregame and stare down the other team with Big Ern. Bollig is like Gaudreau insurance, trade a pick to protect our talented youth. Had Bollig and Ern been around years ago Backlund would be a year ahead in development

Probably why we are hearing the Sharp rumours coming out of this draft. Possibly Hossa as well may have to be looked at.

Love it....absolutely love it.
Cant get enough of these types of guys when grooming a roster full of younger and smaller guys (for the most part)...this is the type of player that allows younger guys to develop their own game without worrying about getting intimidated by other teams rougher guys.
Anyone who thinks this is a waste of a late 3rd rd pick is crazy IMO...great value when you consider what he will provide to others, even his minor offensive contributions but most of all the winning culture he has been brought up in.

Lead the hawks in hits. Comes from a winning culture. 7 goals so can chip in offensively with minimal ice time. Good pick up.

Man the Flames sure like to make stupid trades when it comes to "truculence".
Move over Chris Butler and TJ Galiardi, Flames fans have their new whipping boy. On a beauty 3 year contract, too.

I am alright with this move. A third round pick doesn't come with Stanley Cup experience and the lessons a cup run brings.

Great pickup for the Flames. Big, tough guy who can play > 3rd rounder who might play three years from now.

Which trade you referring too? Because it definitely isn't this one.

Go over to some Hawks boards. They're elated that they could get out of this contract.

Love the pickup, good addition to the team, just not a fan of the price
