They interviewed Pierre on Team 1040 in Vancouver after Shero was fired and apparently they were good buddies. The host asked if he'd ever accept a GM job in PIT even if it came at the cost of his friend being (in Pierre's opinion) wrongfully fired. He danced and danced around the question for literally five minutes talking about who knows what without coming anywhere close to saying yes or no. It was quite something.

Who's McGuire trying to kid? We all know he would likely sacrifice his first born son to get another GM gig in the NHL. And of course he would likely Nancy Kerrigan a GM in the back room to get the job as well.

I need one more cliche, he'd throw his own grandma under a bus to get a GM job. There, done.

Back when McGuire use to come on the Fan960 with Richards I thought he would have made a good GM. He sounds like he knows his stuff.

He may know his stuff, but would he have the respect of other GM's and the business side of things to negotiate fairly. I can tell you from my standpoint, I think I could rip the guy off in a deal, and if he tried pulling a fast one, I'd give him a wedgie followed by a noogie. The guy's a flake, and if the Pens seriously expect him to make a difference, they're mistaken.

Don't mean to add fuel to the fire, but I can tell you that Pierre is tight with multiple people in the organization.

"Another GM gig"would imply that McGuire has had one previously. I know he was a terrible NHL coach, and bounced around for a while with various organisations in various rather ineffective capacities, but I do not recall him ever serving as a team's general manager. What am I missing?

I think that this is an awful idea in just about every sense, and do hope that the Penguins are desperate and foolhardy enough too actually go through with it. I'm quite sure that McGuire will be a hockey ops. disaster, but will end up being very, very good entertainment.

Selective memory on my part. I knew he was something at some point and wasn't very good at it. I stand corrected.

I kind of hope it happens if only to see McGuire on the draft floor breakdancing if one of his coveted prospects is available when he picks. Him going up to the podium saying; "The Pittsburgh Penguins select.." then with a fist pump and a "POW" followed by "..from the OHL's....". Would be entertaining for sure.

Yeah, McGuire would be awful as a GM.

Couldn't stand him the last couple years he was with TSN, and then took his schtick to NBCSN. His ridiculous antics in attempting to use creative (and sometimes create his own) cliches to try and sound ultra smart was bad enough. Him then name dropping of coaches, GM, and unknown scouts was clearly trying to wiggle his way into a job down the road.

Watched a Bruins/Wings game this playoffs, and on Iginla's winning tip goal, he didn't credit Iginla at all, he was sucking up to Julien, patting him on the back for "manufacturing live legs" on the OT play. What does that even mean? Sounds good to Pierre though, as he clearly thinks the game at a higher level than you and I.

Garbage, self-grandizing "analysis" like that, with an expanded, highly useless vocabulary and sucking up to any and all in the hockey world on national TV to sound both apparently so much smarter and, prove that he knows people in the game, is exactly the same schtick he's running up the flagpole to anyone in the Pens organization to get the job.

It's the same sort of dazzling with words and theory that Feaster tried to get by on here...at least Feaster had previous GM experience.

Not sure what the Pens are thinking here...Mario has to be smarter than that.

Maybe Mario wants to do it himself but needs a shill to do the press conferences. While the reporters are busy trying not to laugh at McGuire, Mario can smirk in the background.
