Curious to see how much of an improvement these seats will be.
It is a huge improvement.

The problem with the metal detectors is that they dont even use them. If you watch the detectors from the inside they go off and people are just waived through.

So essentially you waste 5 minutes of everyone time about 3 lifetimes worth of time per year, to do absolutely nothing for safety. The detectors do slow the rate people get in in peak times.

To me it is one more annoying thing that makes the game less enjoyable I can't see anyone cancelling over it but it is an unnecessary annoyance.

No one cancels SOLELY over it, which is why I specifically called them the "last straw" for several people. That phrase doesn't mean it's the only reason, just the most recent in a list of issues. I wish I could say I'm surprised by the people defending security theatre, and comments of "if you've got nothing to hide", but... sadly that's just where we are as a society today. I don't even drink and I can't stand these things, but that doesn't fit into a lot of people's myopia apparently.

The Fan Attic locations outside of security are probably their biggest detractors. Pre-game business has basically disappeared because people have to spend so long in line. Anyone who says they haven't slowed things down must not go to a lot of games, or maybe only ever shows up when the lines are at their longest anyway. Much like the airport, we find we now have to go 15-30 minutes earlier to get the same level of activity in the lobby. Any time later, and it's a huge crowd. Never used to be that way.

I think the metal detectors at the 'Dome are completely ridiculous and I find them rather insulting. Calgary Flames fans are the most mature, loyal and responsible fans in the NHL, so unless metal detectors and bag/person searches (which by the way are hardly used or done properly) are specifically mandated by the NHL, or there is reason for alarm to use them such as troublemakers getting arrested having weapons on them at a consistent rate, there is simply no reason for them and they need to go.
