CalgaryPuck @calgarypuckcom · 15m Ward continued ... "Great speed, great vision, great hands. Allows himself space. Puts his nose in there. Not afraid of dirty areas."
Poirier's skating technique has been criticized.
It works for him, perhaps the kid is on to something.
Could his technique be taught to others?
He was a guy that the Flames felt they had to take when they did or risk losing him in the next few picks. They didn't want to risk it to the Penguins pick for example. I believe a few teams have been rumoured all over him so they look to have been right.
I wonder if his skating style was the wart that had him projected 2nd round.
I saw him at development camp and he does skate bull legged, not sure if that's the correct term.

Habs wanted him too, he wasn't going to be there at 28th for sure.
What I heard was that his skating got way faster in his draft year.
I thought we were going to pick Shinkaruk, so I watched Poirier's highlights and could not believe how incredibly fast he was.
Out of all the prospects we have not in NHL he is the one I have the greatest hopes for.

I am glad Feaster and Co. didn't wait to pick him at the 28th slot. I think he will develop well for the flames. Seems just like the type of player that Burke likes.
