Good point. Although I'm generally okay with Patrick Burke doing it anyway for optics' sake it makes sense to recuse himself.

Also anyone who follows the NHL should know he's not going to get suspended. There have been tons of hits worse than that that doesn't don't get suspensions. They'll blame Sedin for not protecting himself/putting himself in that position. Whether or not you agree with it can be disputed but that's the NHL's stance on these types of plays.
I disagree. A borderline hit that results in an injury and a stretcher, to a star player, has gotten a response. The fact that it didn't here is encouraging, because it signals a new course and new priorities from the DOPS. I have rarely agreed with anything they've done in the past so that's good news. I think they probably should have given Byron a game just as an indication that players should be careful when they're in that danger zone, but that's based on the idea that the outcome of the play (i.e. an injury) is a significant factor in determining discipline.

But if they're not suspending to the injury anymore and just looking at how dangerous the hit was and how intentional the play was, then no suspension is the right call and also, HALLELUJAH! FINALLY! Because the priorities have been screwed up for years. I'm not getting my hopes up yet, of course.

No surprise there wasn't any suspension.

If the NHL wants to suspend for hits like that, they really have to start setting a different precedent. It would be hard to suspend Byron when blatant flying elbows targeting the head are given 1 to 3 games in other situations.

lol at the "hit from behind" crowd...guy turned his back where is Byron supposed to put his hands? up his own ass?

Glad the league has vindicated 90% of the opinions on here the rest of you need to look at the incident and not the result

You mean Daniel Sedin, right?

I still look back at that play and think "how the hell are you turning your back when you know a hit is coming?"

It's hard to confirm either way, cause even in the reverse angle we can't really see the puck, but the way Daniel stops there looks to me like the puck ended up behind him on the boards, probably slowed up from snow or he just took the wrong angle to pick up the puck. His primary concern was the puck, not Byron.

Easy answer there, hands on his stick and stick on the ice, stick goes for puck, body goes to knock Sedin away from puck.

You asked where his hands could have been, I answered it. What aren't you going to bother with? Could his hands not have been where I said?

In all my previous posts I've said it's not a dirty hit. It's a hit in a dangerous location that has far riskier consequences than any other location on the ice.

its a dangerous game stuff happens...if a player keeps his two hands on his stick at all times he is the one going to be hurt. Nothing wrong with having your hands at chest level of another player. Guy turned and Byron got mostly shoulder and maybe 20% of one number

anyway I think we have spent more time on this than the NHL

The whole stretcher business was the medical staff being extra careful. Sounds like he has no injury at all. Life goes on.

I made the mistake of reading the Canucks forum during the incident...comments ranged from having Monahan's career ended with a purposefully dirty hit, Gaudreau's career ended by breaking his leg, putting Hartley's head on a spike, and coming into our city and destroying property. That doesn't even cover it, the most vile stuff was deleted. For every sane Canucks fan there's atleast 20 inhuman, digusting, and arrogant fan.

It's good to hear D.Sedin is all well and that Byron didn't get suspended.

Is there really any questions to why riots follow crushing defeat in that city?

There are actually quite a few decent posters on the Nucks board. But you have to wade through so many trolls and morons to get to them its just not worth it. The loudest and most obnoxious of them seem to have zero understanding of the game of hockey. The average age would appear to be around 12.

The 'nucks filled place I was at was up in arms when he went down but when they saw the replay everyone conceded it wasn't a dirty hit.

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
Paul Byron reached out to Daniel Sedin by text and apologized for the hit. "I'm glad he's okay."

I also thought it was pretty professional/classy for Giordano to ask Henrik how Daniel was doing. I'm not so sure all players would do that..... much respect to a classy bunch.

I have never understood why people who aren't Flames fans hang out on a Flames message board. What a crazy waste of energy.
