Man I just checked and I can't believe Jagr's 1 year with Devils AAV is 4 mill with 2 mill cap hit. Like Hudler's, only half the cap hit. That's nuts considering his production this year.
We could overpay him easy, like 5-6 maybe - we should be anyway, to progress toward that elusive cap floor with Cammy leaving.
Plus he's got some countrymen on the team to muck it up with in Smid and Hudler.

Giordano is one of the best captains I've ever seen, his work ethic permeates through the entire team. His play is infectious out there. Hope he is healthy next year, if we can develop some young potential leadership while Gio is captain the team will be out of a rebuild much faster than most think.
Things are definitely on the right track as opposed to 3 or 4 years of being on the the wrong track. A kickass new Finnish goalie is awsome too.
Agreed. I won't go into the whole Iginla thing, but the captaincy for the Flames hasn't been what I've wanted it to be for a long time... and right here, right now, Giordano is everything I'd want to see wearing the captaincy for the Flames.

Man, not that I would feel sorry for a fanbase to begin with, but NJ fans in particular won't ever get any sympathy from me. Went to a game there in '09 (a season that they finished well within the playoffs) and not only was a large portion of the lower bowl empty, but in it, right in front of us, there was a dude sound asleep.
Spoiler!
Also I'd like to mention that during the Olympic Break I shook Rämö's hand, which was obviously a determining factor in his excellent play since and I would thus like to accept 0.933% of the credit for this win

I hope Burke found out from Feaster which part of the scouting department felt that Ramo was the best goalie outside of the NHL and takes their opinion on goalies instead of the group that picked Berra.
I really think Captain Gio can help mentor a youngish Jagr these days and both of them can have a burning influence through the lineup. The other way around!!? Sure!!
What Gaskal said. Even for a big one year deal for 4M. A true pro who never says die and just keeps on producing becsuse of his God given talent, drive, and love for the game. oh, and as part of that, his reach and ability to incredibly control the puck.
I can't put it all together quite like he can and always did. What a player to look up to. As said he bleeds 'professional' and unless he wants to play for a Canadian team in the playoffs, Calgary is a good destination. We can offer a bit of money and a bit of term. Nothing beyond 2 years of course. Many intangibles to be gained from one of the World's greatest.
Sign me up for some of that.

I didn't take it too seriously when he said it (the day before his first start of the season). Now...can we safely say that we win that trade with Montreal?

Nj fan complaining about goalies? Where was he during Broduer's prime. In regards to complaints about Calgary not tanking, we scored one goal, dressed 7? Rookies and have achieved all of 1 shutout this season. Maybe look in the mirror NJ. Maybe u expected the oilers in town tonight, but you got the MF FLAMES!
I love the team bonding and chemistry! Mets game on the off day! Hard practice, then this game to cap off a winning 5gm roadie that started 0-2!
Also love that rosters expand after the deadline, so we can see players like agostino and possibly Arnold and Jonny hockey.
Imagine if we were to sign Jagr and maybe Statsny. Things could get very interesting next year. I fully expect a 1/3 turnover of the roster. I still expect the teams #1 focus to be player development and rebuild. I expect Monahan to have a sophomore slump. I expect Colborne and Baertschi to get better. And maybe an addition or subtraction (Wideman) on defense. But theis team could make the playoffs. And more importantly, not set back the rebuild.

Most of the NJ fans to their credit, are fairly embarrassed by some of their fellow posters tonight. It is expected when a team is pushed to the brink of elimination from qualifying for the post-season.
Still, some of the comments are just 'wow' worthy. So much irony, so much fail.. just some vocal posters venting a bit too much, and their lack of hockey knowledge just comes out. I think most of the fans venting there tonight are just the types that don't follow many other teams (if any) outside of the Devils, and who probably never watch the Western Conference except when they play the Devils.
Have to say.. there are some pretty funny posts though!
Good showing by the Flames. Ramo was just a rock back there. Butler had that beautiful play with the puck lying on the goal-line. Giordano with that goal, and that super-human effort of getting back into the play and breaking up that chance.
Kudos to Monahan for doing well matching up tonight. Really liked to see him being the only forward out on that PK. Hartley is definitely pushing him bit by bit. McGrattan on the ice in the last moments of the game? That is trust he has earned from Hartley.
There is just so much to keep liking about this team. I don't put too much stock in the few posters whining over at HF - you have to expect that when teams successfully play spoilers.
+1 to the hope that Flames somehow get Jagr next year. Doubtful, but would be great. Definitely a guy that would be huge for the rookies coming through the organization as to not only learn how to be a professional with regards to the hard work and commitment, but the having a guy like him with out of this world skill can rub-off some of that skill onto young players who are absorbing and learning.
I remember back through the 90's and first half of the 2000's - this team seemed like the NHL's worst at making and receiving passes. The entire team handled passes like hand-grenades. That has really changed, and I think it happened over time thanks to guys like Huselius, Tanguay, etc., - guys who were very good at playmaking. Just my opinion anyways - but having skill in your lineup (especially with rookies finding their way in the NHL and still in the 'learning phase") permeates throughout the lineup I think.
