It's hilarious, the Sun has a "Tale of the Tape" type thing in the paper this morning between Robert and Ron Liepert. It lists the controversies of each and for Ron its basically all policy decisions that his controversies, while all of Rob's are stupid ass stuff he's said or done. You might or might not agree with Liepert politically, but at least he won't be a national embarrassement.

Given it looks like we'll finally get a proper nomination election, and given the publicity and number of new voters registered, I can't see how Anders will win this one. I mean, its not like he is the "old dog" in this race that the old people conservatives would traditionally flock to.
All is going to depend on all the old crazies in Glamorgan/Glenbrook and Bowness, as the rest of the riding is all too young to give a F (as a whole). That said, Bowness being in this riding scares me, as they seem like the Anders type.

I am hopeful that is the case, but it would be bad to underestimate Anders. He's still got two weeks left of tricks to pull, and he's certainly motivated.

Anders will win - he is organized, and his supporters will turn out.

Liepert's supporters are also well organized, you might be surprised.

Yep, can't the power of having the Prime Minister in your backpack, who has already shown a contempt for democracy in that specific riding.
Anders will probably have to be steam-cleaned to get him out of that riding.

If Anders gets the sense he is going down, I have no doubt he will go out in a blaze of glory, letting loose all sorts of comments he's held in for years.

Oh can you imagine how great that would be!? This guy says the craziest things even when the muzzle (such as it is) is on.

As others have speculated, maybe that is why they want to keep him in power, cause they know he has something, and is nuts enough to use it when he goes down.

I always kinda thought that too, but it's a little too "House Of Cards-ish" for reality.
This tool has been on board for 17 years now, and I just don't see that being based on "oh, he knows a secret" or something.
I think he got into power because people there vote Conservative by default. He's held on this long, even though he's a buffoon and a useless MP, because Harper is The Boss and he's not going to let anyone push the party around.
Now sure, that last bit sounds "House of Cards-ish" as well, but it certainly fits in with the way he does business.

I guess it's too far out to suggest that maybe Anders is ideologically similar to Harper and the rest of the Conservative party decision makers.
I mean, that couldn't be the reason, could it?

Exactly, Anders is the only stupid one to actually say what his one his mind.

Maybe, but Liepert isn't exactly a tree-hugging hippie either. I think Anders may actually be in trouble this time.

One gets the sense that it would make the whole Ford debacle look like Pollyanna's kindergarten class. I just think of Ford's outrageous comments and imagine those bumped up 100x worse....

My sense is that if he lost the CPC riding nomination in Signal Hill, he'd simply run as an independent in 2015, claiming to be the true Conservative in the riding - blue signs, etc etc.

Oh for sure, but you can't swing a dead cat in Calgary without hitting someone who is ideologically similar to Harper and the rest of the party. They are all more palatable than Anders, yet there he is year after year.
Just seems like there is a little more to it than "he agrees with us, so he stays".
