I just don't think that the people who think that a new building is just around the corner are being realistic.
The popular opinion is that once the Oilers secure funding for their building the Flames will pursue theirs. Well OK, Katz has been at it for about 5 years and he is no closer to getting a cheque in his hand than he was the day he started.
With the Saddledome it was easy. Once Calgary was granted the Olympics, construction started immediately. Slam dunk.
This is a totally different scenario. Murray Edwards wants a brand new, half a billion dollar building. Only one hitch.............. he doesn't want to pay for it. Don't be holding your breath on that one.
I'd say Calgary is at least 10 years away from a new hockey arena and that is fine with me because my game experience at the Saddledome is terrific.
Besides, if I was king of the world I would build a new football facility long before I took a wrecking ball to the Saddledome.

Yeah, because the return on investment with all that sweet CFL cash rolling in makes fantastic business sense.

It seems to make sense in Winnipeg, Regina and Hamilton. Also Vancouver just did a major renovation.

I want the Calgary Stampeders to join the NFL. Then it will make sense to build a state of the art football stadium.
I wouldn't be happy with a 2nd Class newly Built Football Stadium that would stifle potential for the Stamps to join the NFL.
I am not a football fan at all, but the amount of NFL fans in this city (especially women) is surprising.
Calgary needs to dream big.

Vancouver's splits as a MLS stadium doesn't it? Granted there's been some noise lately of Calgary trying to get a soccer team, maybe a new soccer/football stadium isn't a bad idea

Beasley seems way more enthusiastic when certain players score.
"Flames goal... scored by #12.. JJJJJJJJJJAAAAAAARRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMEEEEEE IIIIGGGGGGGGGIIINNLLLLAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
vs
"Flames goal... scored by #44... chris butler..."
It's a team game. Everyone should get the same level of excitement, not just the premier players.
Minor pet peeve.... and maybe its just me who even notices.

we may think we are a big city now, but if the NFL isn't that interested in Toronto....what makes you think they would be interested in Calgary? most NFL fans in this city would continue to follow thier favourite team or whatever teams they are betting on each given weekend. If there are already tons of NFL fans here (which there are) why does the NFL need a team here? they already have probably close to the same ratings they would with an NFL team here. NFL is about tv money, and Calgary isn't big enough to bring that in.
the only way we get an NFL stadium is if they decide they want to expand, a billionare in Calgary pays enough and we get a 60,000 seat stadium...who is going to build that before getting an actual team?
you aren't an NFL fan but you want Calgary to get an NFL team?
why do we want so badly to be associated with the US and american cities....we don't need an NFL team to be world class (do we really need to be world class? or just an awesome place to live?)

Yeah, because having an NFL team definitely makes a city "World Class"... just ask Cincinnati, Green Bay or Jacksonville.

He scored his 1st one recently. I can't remember what game it was but it did happen.

He scored the first goal for the Flames wearing the new third jersey, against the Red Wings.

BC Place is a totally different beast. The Olympics in 2010 kickstarted that reno (loads of government cash), and it hosts CFL and MLS, along with all sorts of exhibitions and events thanks to the retractable roof.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a new football/soccer stadium in Calgary one day. But the economics of having your key tenant playing 10 games there a year just doesn't cut it. Calgary isn't even close to being on the MLS's radar either. The only hope is to have everything tied in together as a multi-sport district of some sort. Hockey rink, football/soccer stadium, hotel, restaurants, exhibition space, etc.
Now all we need is a billion dollars and we can get started on this right away.

- No debit at the concessions. This is 2013
- Narrow stairs to the Avison Young Club from the concourse
- Ends of the Press Level beside the washrooms have no stairs to get down. Have to either jump the rail (if the security guard lets you) or ask everyone in your aisle to "excuse me". Also you miss out on giveaways. My seasons were there last year in PL8. Not fun!
Those are the 3 biggest ones for me

I always thought the note on her jersey was exceptionally awesome. What a weird thing to be annoyed by.
