I don't like this move. Reduces our skill level, and possibly affects Monahan's numbers. Baertschi is one player I enjoy watching, and am disappointed he won't be in.

This decision is about so much more than tonight's game against the Wild.

I don't think the Sven benching is a big deal. As others have mentioned he has had some poor games and shouldn't be above sitting if his play doesn't improve.

But the comments about Jackman and even McGrattan bringing something are a joke. I know Jackman is an easy target because he brings absolutely nothing but after a first few good games (for him) McGrattan has been pretty much useless out there as well. If they are going to hold him back from fighting might as well have him sit and use SOB for times when message needs to be sent like with Ashton the other night.

Sitting Sven is fine but don't insult our intelligence with garbage about Jackman and McGrattan "showing something."

Who Sven is being replaced with doesn't matter to the organization, because the decision isn't about one game. If it was, they're all high and should be removed from power.

McGrattan has drawn a few penalties, and does some good things in limited ice time. Jackman is a dime a dozen mucker. They're also both players on the NHL active roster, so it's gotta be one of them.

Wow, I agree with all of this.

I take it all back... scratching Sven so Jackman could play in his spot was definitely the right move.
That move really helped the Flames in the game tonight and I'm sure Sven learned soooo much watching in the press box.
I look forward to more brilliant moves like this....

Scratching Sven has blown up in Hartley's face twice. I have the feeling he's going to continue to do this even if it keeps backfiring because he seems to be one of those guys that would rather do things his way even if it's wrong because he has a personal issue with that player. I really have no idea why Smith was benched after playing pretty good in his limited action. It seems like Smith, Horak, Sven, Jones, etc. can never get in his good books.

I guess they want him to watch how the opposition dominates the Flames because there hasn't been much to learn from watching the Flames the two times he's been scratched.

I'm not baffled onto why he was benched but playing Jackman so much instead? I get that he's from the area and had family and friends watching but that was a truly pathetic coached game. We had no chance thanks to Hartley.

Sven's back next game guaranteed. Between the Glencross injury and Jackman taking a dumb penalty again, there will be a roster spot for Sven.

Scratching Sven and giving those minutes to Jackman is a brutal move. I figured Backlund was taking that spot on the wing with Bouma taking the 4th line C role. With Glencross out Sven will be in against the Blues

Hartley didn't cause any of the odd man rushes, the breakaway, or the multiple missed coverages.

Not sure how it's Hartley's fault

The 3-1 goal was due to Jackman being way out of position.

Of everything bad in this game this was the biggest pinpoint for me

Hartley must really dislike backlund to purposefully ice 2 gripped lines instead of having a grinder line and a skill line

Do we know 100% it is 100% Hartley scratching Sven?

Exactly.
I am thinking it is more "hockey ops" meddling

What? Someone telling the coach which players he can play and which ones he should sit? .... and Hartley doing it?

If this is true, my respect for Hartley has dropped considerably.
