All class, as always, from Halladay. I am sure there are others besides me that think he should sign a one year deal and see how it goes. Can't be much worse than some of the other options.

One of the best competitors I have ever seen - obviously feels that he can't be the guy that he wants to be anymore. Heck of a career, wish him well - hopefully finds a spot in the Blue Jays org later on in life.

so happy I got to see him pitch live once, even if it was with Philly in Dodger Stadium. My favourite Jay.

It really can. Doc had a stellar career but he just doesn't have anything left, it was almost painful to watch his last few starts. Better that he retire now and be remembered as the dominating pitcher that he was then hang on.

Sounds like Doc was pitching with a "broken back" last season... Said it wasn't his shoulder that forced the retirement, rather his ailing back.

God, we need him!
What happened to his back? Blame this on Philadelphia!

God dammit. Roy Halladay provided a glimmer of hope for many dark dark years in the 2000s. Really was hoping he'd come back this season to help the rotation. Either way, he's my favorite pitcher of all time.

Jays linked to Logan Morrison via mlbtraderumours.com, how serious I'm not sure.

I was at Canada Day game a couple years ago, which I think was Doc's first game back in Toronto since the trade. He came out of the dugout to hand in the lineup card, he got a complete standing ovation. Was somewhat surreal, and something I will remember forever.

Apparently Santos was close to being dealt to the Rangers that would've seen a starter come to Toronto (3 way trade). It was kiboshed due to the starter failing a physical. The only guy that I can think of as a maybe candidate would be Brett Andersen from the A's and it does fit as the Rangers and A's did make a trade not that long ago. Interesting either way.

Isn't he just a slightly younger / crappier version of Adam Lind?

Not Anderson from what I've been told. The Rockies seem to be leading the way for Anderson based on info I heard early last week.

Anderson has always been intriguing because of his talent, but his injuries have limited his potential substantially. If you're a rebuilding team, sure you take the chance on him, but on a team that's going for the championship, like the Jays, can you really take a chance on a guy who has a high probability of getting injured? I don't think I'd trade the moon to get him because of that issue. In the past Toronto has always used injuries as a copout for a failed season. Every GM should be held accountable for team injuries fully knowing on average each players propensity to get injured. If you get injury prone players, there's naturally a higher chance they'll get injured again (especially in baseball). You get a lot of 10 of them, the chances increase, it's fairly simple. Get reliable players, and that excuse can no longer be used.

Phillies now open to discussing Lee/Hamels during trade talks - interesting, Jays could really use a LHP in their start rotation to couple with Buehrle. Wonder what the costs would be for either, as both would look good in blue.

Hamels has 112 or so million over the next 5 years and Lee has 65 over the next 3
If the Jays eat the entire contract, we could probably get them for not that much. Like Hutchison + Nay + another B prospect.

Sounds like the Phillies aren't all that interested in moving them, as they don't want to eat any dollars and want a hefty return of players/prospects back.
