Why not? I know a guy who was shut out of a locker room for less then this. This isn't Bob McKenzie, it's a very small media member. If he was booted no one would notice.

I'm sure he has fans but that doesn't change anything or really mean a darn thing. Botchford is a low end local sports guy, he could be gone tomorrow and it might be a story for a day (because of this story) but it would be soon forgotten. The Sharks don't have to let him into their locker room next time they're in town and I don't think he would ever do this in the Canucks room because he knows full well he wouldn't be welcome again.

He'll make it some story about how edgy and cool they are and call it a day.
Everybody wins, he gets his 'new age' reporting and makes a comment every time he can't get into a SJ locker room... and SJ doesn't have to have him in their locker room.

Only commented on your "no one would notice" comment. All I'm saying is that some would. He's not the nobody that you think he is. He's far from a media "superstar" like a Mckenzie, but he's not some blogger or writer for the free papers you get at the Skytrain stations(all due respect to those people of course).
Time will tell as to how this effects his work in the rooms and relationships with players, but I gotta believe this will blow over pretty quickly here.

Be funny if TSN ends up blacklisting him like ESPN did with Jay Mariotti after his incident with his wife a couple years back. Completely different situations obviously, but Lebrun and Johnson didn't seem to take kindly to Botchford's opinion.

Former player turned analyst Jeff O'Neill was going nuts on TSN 1050 Toronto. He hated what Botchford did.

As he should. There's lines you don't cross and Botchford should have known it. Eye-D-ten-T.

I greatly enjoyed the comment. Self effacing and direct and edgy and funny. This only offends the sensitive ones or ones who think he is immature. It is not sexist, racist, homophobic, it truly only reflects on Joe, which is great.
Should it have been reported no, but thank you. My concern is I want to know if the people I watch and enjoy and support were to say something that would offend the public is that being reported? My guess is no and that is whats wrong.
I would want the reporter to be honest. How many people are offended by the comment. So who cares if it was reported. Does Joe care that it was reported, how has he been hurt by this report.
"joe did you say this?"
Yes
"Why"
"Cuz its true"
That's why he said it, and why he did it to twenty people, and that's why its reported.
After wards is when all the BS starts. Who has been hurt and why does anyone care. Reports about stuff that hurts people that's not necessary for public opinion should be protected. If this guy asks Joe care if I quote you he says no is my guess.

What I don't fully understand is why Botchford wouldn't have just walked over to Joe Thornton and asked "Can I print this?".
That alone is why I think Botchford was breaking the "code" and that it should never have been printed.

If Thornton did not say it directly to the reporter. Or address the scrum directly, then it should never have been made public. Further to that, one has to question the decision by the individual to go public.

I really don't understand why he reported it. It sure as hell wasn't news. it was a joke.
Was it just done to embarrass Thornton in public? What's purpose in that? He'll be lucky if he doesn't get all reporters banned from the Shark's dressing room. Want to interview someone? Wait outside and we'll get him.
Its been done before by other teams.

Is there anyone who isn't a bigger fan of Joe Thornton after this? If there is, I don't want to know them. No idea why anyone would be upset that this got published, it doesn't reflect poorly on Joe or the Sharks, quite the opposite... it's just an awesome quote.
The fact that there's any blowback at all about this being printed is part of the problem for me... Hockey should embrace these kinds of things getting press. Oh good lord, the star players actually have personality? In hockey? God forbid.

Even my 2 year old and 4 year old son knows this.
When you fart. You laugh and blame it on mom.
