King's role didn't change at all. The only thing that changes is Feaster reports to Burke.

Kessel is now 25 years old, he had his first PPG season as a 24 year old. Seguin is only 21, and has 3 years to have his first PPG season. Not to mention Kessel had plenty more PP time, ice time in general, and plays a less important position (LW vs C), lets see what Seguin does on the 1st PP unit and first line in Dallas. At best you could say these two are a wash straight up.
Now add in Dougie Hamilton a 19 year old kid who now has one season under his belt and was a stud for team Canada at the world juniors, and a guy who is projected to be a (Knight) 3rd/4th liner. This is still a steal for the Bruins and it isn't even close...
Now if you want to look at how much these guys have been paid, Kessel has been paid 5.4M per for the last three seasons... Seguin has been paid 900K a season with bonuses to get his cap hit to 3.75 per. I am pretty sure an owner would rather pay Seguin 900K-3.75M then Kessel at 5.4.
As well if you remember Boston couldn't sign Kessel at the time because he wanted his big contract but Boston was right against the cap. So Burke had all the leverage in this negotiation and still got ripped off.
I still think Burke is a quality GM, I just don't want anyone having any illusions that, that trade was a smart trade.

Isn't Kessel a UFA after this year? Maybe Burke goes after him once free agency hits.

First of all, Janko is not on the same level as Monahan/Baertschi.
Second, what team in history has ever had 15-20 Monahan/Baertschi level prospects? That's absurd.

I like that because Burke is not the GM he will likely not be scape goated in some round of firings. I think a steady hand on the wheel of this franchise for the next say 10 or so years is going to be absolutely crucial if we're to re-establish respectability.

I wonder if Feaster held back from making any deals, knowing Burke would be coming in (or other choice for president). One thing Burke brings in, is NHL connections. I think the trades and roster moves will come fast and furious now.

Oh I totally agree. I just have to wonder if someone like Feaster is on their way out.

He'll be scapegoat #1 for sure. Although I think with Burke there helping him out this will give Jay some more leeway over the next year or so. It will help him keep his job longer if anything.

I agree. At least we know that when a trade go's through that Burke will have been the one to sign off on it. To me if we make a trade and Burke signs off that probably means that was the best we could get. I really fail to see what kind of input KK could have had on past trades.
This could work if both are on the same page for most things. If not, i don't expect to see Feaster the last one standing.

I don't, we still don't have anything to trade. The trades will happen closer to the deadline.

Feaster will still be the one talking to other teams and setting up deals.
Burke will not be the one calling teams and negotiating trades, so I don't see what everyone is worried about.

This was something that was needed almost 10 years ago. Someone with actual hockey knowledge to manage the hockey side of the business.
King is great for a high level business check but he should never meddle with hockey transactions.

I like that Burke is convictive in his actions. I find Feaster is far too much of a waffler for my liking. At the least Burke should be a strong leader who puts an identity back on the team. No GM makes perfect hockey moves every time, but for the most part Burke has tended to be on the good side more often than not.

Either that or the first mistake he makes, he gets Howson'd.
I'm a big fan of this move. I think it gives the organization a much clearer direction on the style of play and the type of players we are going to be looking at in the future.
It also raises the credibility of the organization. Something that they have been lacking over the last couple years, where as an organization, the Flames have slowly declined into the laughing stock of the league, led by a bunch of idiots who thought they should have made the playoffs the last 3 seasons with the roster.
That is the perception of the organization and that certainly wasn't going to make this an attractive place for Players, Free Agents, Scouts or NHL talent in general.
Whether it was true or not, the amount of rumors associated with Ken King and meddling is going to be brought down to the bare minimum, which will be a nice change.
