I like the optimism that we might be picking 4-7, but I think there is a decent chance we'll pick top 3. Being in the west means we'll have a tougher time picking up points. Other than Buffalo and maybe Edmonton, we will be in tough.

As it stands, I think Calgary will pick 4th as I can't see them being worse than Buffalo, Edmonton, or Florida. But it's still early in the season, and a lot of things can still change. But for now, I'm bracing for a 4th overall pick.

I'm thinking after a trade at the draft, we may move up to either #1 or #2 unless we win the lottery and get the #1 overall pick, that would be sweet.

As always injuries will play a big factor. And in particular injuries to starting goaltenders can be devastating. So any major injuries to the bottom teams may shift the order around.

But yeah 4th last seems to a good ballpark range to expect IMO.

Nice read on Al's son, Ryan MacInnis 6'3.5'' center 185lbs. Kitchener coach compares him to Weiss.

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jrh...181036327.html

Might be interesting if the Flames picked him up with a 2nd/3rd round pick. I know some scouting reports have him challenging as a 1st round pick, but unless his offensive numbers pick up it might be tough for some teams to justify using a 1st rounder on him.

Quote:
Rangers coach Troy Smith is willing to mention MacInnis in the same breath with a NHL veteran who came through the OHL.
"The last few games in particular Ryan's starting to move his feet more and create some offensive opportunities.

"He's kind of like a Stephen Weiss [who played his junior hockey with the Plymouth Whalers]," Smith says. "He's a very smart player. He's able to distribute the puck very well. I think he's going to be a good two-way centre. A guy who can put up points but also play in the last minute [of tight games]."

I went to the Oshawa Generals - Ottawa 67s game last night in Oshawa, and Dal Colle (ranked 3rd by ISS in November) was the 1st star. He was a beast all night and ended up scoring the OT winner. You could really tell that he was a step above most of the players around him.

The Flames will be 3rd last,Buffalo is horrendous as is Florida. Edmonton has been horrible and are only 4 points behind us. it pains me to say this, but they will be ahead of us by Christmas. Iif you consider we will be dealing expiring contracts, this team will be super young after the trade deadline. Oilers will be aquiring older players to supplement their young "talent", thus improving their chances. I don't see us being below any of the other teams. Carolina will improve. All their top players have been horrendous and they are still above us. It looks like Philly has turned it around. Columbus could sneak in there, but I don't see them being any worse than us.

Besides, Burke has to tank for McDavid next year, and I sure hope he allows Feaster to do so! Bring on Nylander and McDavid!

Nylander, Ekblad, or Reinhart.

Any of those three and you can't be upset. We've gathered a decent amount of young talent to this point (Cammy might even get us another late 1st) that even if we don't land Ekblad, we could possibly unload one of our up and coming former 1st rounders for a high end D-prospect if we feel that the offense is coming together well next season and one can be deemed expendable for such a purpose.

No thanks to Nylander.

Need some skilled size up front. Can't have skilled smurfs that get pushed around. Lots of good sized forwards in this draft, need to targets these kind of players and given our current makeup, I'd be shocked and disappointed taking a sub 6' forward

I didn't realize Nylander was only 5'10. Kid could still grow, though.

BPA might be the best approach, regardless, if we're picking top 5. Size is nice, and if we can get the best of both worlds with the pick, then great. But don't take some lower tier guy just cause he's got the frame. Need to come out of this with an elite prospect first and foremost. And if we happen to get too cluttered with smaller guys, you can deal a one off for a bigger guy.

I agree on the no to Nylander. FOr me the top choice would be Ekblad, then Reinhart, then Dal Cole and then after that I think it's a crap shoot

I'm seeing Bennett listed as a Winger and a Centre. Does anyone know what he's actually playing?

Reinhart would be my number 1 choice, followed by Ekblad ... Leon Draisaitl is intriguing too.

Is there still time for any prospects to make a big move, to make this draft class a little more interesting?

Or are most of the prospects at where they will likely be?

Definitely. Drouin made huge jumps last year.

Besides Bennett a very slick Josh Ho-Sang could move up into the top 10 I think.
