In case you missed it, Reto Berra will be starting for the Heat tomorrow. Ward wants to try Ortio out on Saturday.

I bought it last year. As for quality at the start of the year it was terrible. However about half way through the year they seemed to make changes and the quality became pretty decent. I would compare it to watching a streaming pre-season game on the flames website. As for play by play the video is synced up with the radio broadcast, so its not ideal but still pretty good. You have a choice of home and away broadcasts also. You get the jumbotron feed so you will see various crowd activities. You will also see advertizements while hearing different advertizements from the radio broadcast. As for price I am not sure, last year I got early bird pricing for $150. So I would hurry to see if you can still get early bird pricing if your serious about the investment. Personally, I am not buying it again. This is because I get enough hockey with the NHL though. If it was a lockout season again I would definitely consider purchasing again. Hope this helps.

I previewed the Heat's season over at THW. Long story short: they could be pretty dang good if they get goaltending. If not? Well...

Sources telling me former #AHLHeat forward Ryan Howse is coaching #PrinceGeorge Peewee Tier-4 squad that's coming to #Abbotsford next week.

That's okay. Maybe he just doesn't want to be an on-ice player. Sounds like a good opportunity for him. Great way to get his feet wet coaching.

3-2 for the Heat with 8:30 remaining in the game.
Goals for the Heat are Billins (Knight, Reinhart), MacKenzie (Jones), Hanowski (Jooris, Byron).
Ferland and Bancks have each had a fight.
Berra has made 28 saves so far. Heat are 2 for 4 on the PP. Last season their PP was abysmal on the road (27th in the AHL).
EDIT - Josh Jooris scores the insurance goal! 4-2 Heat! Byron and Ramage with the assists.

Heat win 5-2!
Hanowski with a pair of goals (one empty net).
Like Horak, I hope his stay with Abbotsford is brief. I like the kid.

You have to think someone will get a call-up tomorrow to replace Stajan. I would think it'll be Horak, but it could be Knight for his faceoff skills.

Don't they have the roster from tonight plus Jackman?
I guess they might want a full roster but hopefully they don't call up Horak to sit in the PB.

I guess it has to be a centre hey? If not, it's hard not to give Hanowski the call because he's been stupid good in the one exhibition game and this game.
Between the two games, I believe he's got four goals and one assist. I know one of the games didn't matter, but it's still impressive.

I think you let Hanowski play the full year in the AHL.
It's great that he is off to a hot start but he looked really slow in the short stint he had in Calgary last year and behind the play in terms of reading what was going on. I think you let him work 100% on his game and look to him maybe next year or late in the year for a end of the season run of multiple games.
Let some of the other more experienced guys do the up, down, up, down call-ups early on in the season.

Colborne didn't look all that great tonight, so he might need a little more time in the press box.

You would be correct, Sir! The always under-appreciated use of the pun/homonym as humour for the amusement of others is always appreciated here...
...It's good Howse is putting himself to good use by coaching youth hockey, but I find it interesting that he would quit playing a game, seemingly because he's tired of it, to coach pre-teens in the same sport.

At least Feaster and co. know he has a plan. That's what's important.

Granlund is day-to-day still. So he hasn't practiced or played a game in a Heat uniform yet.
Ferland is just having so much fun out there. During practice he's always goofing around with the guys. Smiling. But at the same time, he's working really hard. It's great how big of a 180 he's done. He went from a quiet, shy, unconditioned kid (who was practicing upwards of four hours in training camp last season) to an energetic, extroverted, fit guy. It's a fantastic progression to see.

I agree with the premise, but if Hanowski keeps putting up points nightly, I think you have to reward that with a call up. Maybe just for a game or two, but when you are a rebuild team and looking to develop and motivate your prospects I think you need to show that the Flames are watching and willing to reward good work there. I don't think he has a fragile ego or mental state, so if you bring him up as a "way to go" and send him back, it will motivate him rather then crush him. Plus, he put in a ton of work over the summer to get into better shape and now he's scoring back to back two goal games, that's worthy of some recognition.
It's something the Flames have been poor at in years past and I would like to see more of this sort of thing. If you have prospects doing well, they should be brought up and rewarded. Put the focus on what we have rather then trying to bring in some quick fixes from outside the system (yes, directly referring to the Colborne/Horak thing).
