My only concern with him going to the AHL is if he is developed physically enough to be ready to play against men with his style of play. He isn't going to change the way he plays and will not only have to have to answer the bell for his hits but will be hitting people probably 20 lbs heavier then if he were in junior.

He didn't dominate and had a fine season by all accounts last year. Nothing wrong with that but also nothing indicating that he should be done with junior or is ready for AHL.

Defensemen take awhile to develop and it seems to make sense that he should go back to juniors for another year work on his game and move up to AHL the next season like most players would.

Probably better for him to get top pairing minutes in Junior than bottom pairing minutes in the AHL. Next year he should be ready for a bigger role in the AHL.

Wouldn't it be something if this kid beat out Butler or Russell for the 6th spot on the blueline. I can see him proving his worth during the preseason, and getting a very long look camp. The brass was raving about him at DC...we will see how he fairs against bigger men. Glad to see got a contract after DC.

It would be a little concerning that a guy that was okay to good, but not great, last year at junior is one of the top 6 defensemen on the team.

19 year old defensemen rarely make the NHL even the elite ones not sure why we would expect that Seiloff would be one of the few that do.

The AHL is where Sieloff needs to be next year.

I think it's in the best interests of everyone involved if he should play in Windsor this year, because my wife's cousin's kid just got drafted by the Spitfires, and it's only fair for the universe if they have the best team possible.

All joking aside, it would be great to see him at least get a long look at camp.

Have you seen him? He's built like a brick house.

I haven't seen him but I have heard he gained 15 lbs. If he is where he would be for his playing weight then maybe he is ready. My concern would be if he is still developing and gaining mass he would be better served playing against juniors then men. Especially with his playing style.

Seiloff himself seems to believe he is at the right weight for his game to transition well to the NHL. Didn't he say he was around 200 lbs at dev camp? Said if he was any bigger he would be too slow and any smaller he wouldn't be able to use his body as well as he could.

19 or not, his kind of style is one where his size dictates his transition to the NHL. He thinks he is big enough, the Flames think he has a legit shot at making the big team, so I think there is a very real chance he get there this year. If he goes the the AHL for a stint, all the better. It is a pretty big jump even if you are ready. Will be interesting to see how he fares against NHL calibre forwards.

I would lose my mind if he one day lays a hit on Hall like Sarich did on Marleau in the playoffs

Don't see anyone expecting it though.

I have been salivating about that very thing since we drafted Sieloff.

It's going to happen. And when it does, it's going to be joyous.

I have a feeling early September he will absolutely level someone.

It's exciting to have that presence on the blueline again.

The most games Sieloff has played in a season is 45 games + the WJC. I think his play has shown it could still use some seasoning in bathe CHL. By his own admission he is still rounding out the fundamentals and there is no reason to rush him along because we are all excited about his potential.

If he plays beyond expectations I think the '04-'05 lockout proved that players can make just as easy a transition to the big leagues. It certainly didn't hurt anyone.

Can they start him in Windsor and call him up to Abbotsford?

Nope. Once he's down, he's down. There is emergency recalls but those are rare and he'd have to be returned asap. Flames have only recalled two gusy from juniors ever for emergency purposes. Sven and Tyrone Garner.

He is also free to join the Heat at the end of Windsor's season - assuming they are still going...
