I can see Joey Mac being put on waivers and us going with a Berra/Ramo tandem. I hope Jackman gets moved out so we can see Ferland has got playing with the big boys. Derek Smith traded and Cundari takes his spot.

Ferland couldn't even crack the AHL regularly last season. I think he definitely needs at least a year down in the AHL developing.

^Would rather have Butler than Russell or O'Brien.

Also I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by Russell.

russel had a great year when hitchock first got to St. Loius, i am hoping to be pleasantly surprised, and see him moving into the flames top 4 easily.

I found this article about how much Hitchcock liked Russell:

“I’m not one of these guys who falls in love with points with younger players,” Hitchcock said. “One thing about defensemen is anybody who has any upside offensively doesn’t realize that until later in their careers where everything calms down – I’m talking 27 and above.”

He's 26 right now......

I've followed him for years because he always reminded me of Brodie and I always wanted us to aquire him.

If Kipper's coming back to town anyways, then why don't they put him on the bench.. Can we have an assistant goalie coach? haha. Would be a great mentor for someone like Berra, though. And if both our goalies tripped on a crack the ice and screwed up their ankles in a game somehow, then we'd have the ultimate backup to the backup.

^Looks not too bad actually, distributes the scoring pretty well. We arent too bad off on the wings.

If you switched Stajan with a Carter or something it wouldnt be so bad at all. (Im just imagining us getting fair value for Phanuef)...

He did move a couple of guys already, their names were Tanguay and Sarich. And before that he did move a couple of guys already, their names were Iginla and Bouwmeester.

Will he move more guys out? I certainly wouldn't rule it out. I think more than in any other previous year in recent history the Flames will actually make spaces for youngsters if they win them in camp. If a vet shows poorly in camp then they could be moved.

From looking at the defense at the addition of Russell and O'Brien combined with the likelihood of a guy like Breen or Cundari making the team I think a guy like Smith is in tough to stay. Butler could be pushed out if youngsters really impress.

There's no rush to move guys out IMO. See what you have in camp and if at that point we've got excess at some position then Feaster can deal from it.

Not worried about it.

The Flames roster is what it is... A rebuild squad with a mediocre coach that will get mediocre results from a group of highly inexperienced players.

I don't mean to troll, but does anyone reasonably expect a playoff appearance this season in Calgary with this lineup and coaching staff?

Tell me to take a hike, and I will.. Don't mean to ruffle feathers I just haven't followed the flames roster until I read this thread.
Ah well. At least the Flames are here to stay.

Try as I might, I can't make this lineup work.

Too many bodies.

Gotta clear out at least one, if not two players.

Great points. Also, looking at past years, takes a few weeks for teams to settle in and identify their needs. When that happens I imagine there will be more than a few GM's phoning Feaster about guys like Stempniak, Cammalleri, Butler etc..

Feaster is in the drivers seat, he wouldn't have any problem moving any of those pending UFA names at the deadline. No rush lets see what the kids got at camp first.

Flames need to trade Giordano, Butler, Cammalleri, Stajan, Jackman and Jones.

Assuming picks in return, the lines would look like

FORWARDS
Sven Baertschi ($1.425m) / Mikael Backlund ($1.500m) / David Jones ($4.000m)
Jiri Hudler ($4.000m) / Corban Knight ($3.750m) / Lee Stempniak ($2.500m)
Curtis Glencross ($2.550m) / Sean Monahan ($1.775m) / Roman Horak ($0.805m)
T.J. Galiardi ($1.250m) / Lance Bouma ($0.578m) / Brian McGrattan ($0.750m)
DEFENSEMEN
Dennis Wideman ($5.250m) / T.J. Brodie ($0.578m)
Shane O'Brien ($2.000m) / Kris Russell ($1.500m)
Patrick Sieloff ($0.925m) / Mark Cundari ($0.600m)
Christopher Breen ($0.578m) /
GOALTENDERS
Karri Ramo ($2.750m)
Joey MacDonald ($0.925m)

Win or lose, I'd be ecstatic with that lineup.

I don't think there is any win option with that line-up.

As most have already pointed out too many guys but for the most part (outside of possible 9 games for Monahan and after trade deadline):

Glencross-Backlund-Hudler
Baertschi-Stajan-Cammy
Jones-Knight-Stempniak
Galliardi-Bouma/Horak-Jackman
McGrattan

Gio-Brodie
Wideman-SOB
Butler-Russell
Smith

MacDonald
Ramo

I would prefer to see Blair Jones in the line-up than Knight but the staff seems to have something against Jones and hard to see Feaster not forcing Knight into the line-up.

Really think that Hudler, Wideman, Butler, Stajan, Stempniak and Cammy should be moved out to make room for Reinhart, Bouma/Horak, Breen, Cundari with Hudler and Wideman being very unlikely to be moved.

Not an ideal team and certainly not one with many wins in it but at least steps being made in right direction unlike the past.
