Stauffer insinuating this deal isn't done because Oilers management is dealing with a free agent who's in town for a visit right now...thought to be Clarkson I guess.

Wasn't Horcoff a buyout candidate? Regardless of what people think about him, I still always thought he was still an NHL capable player - a decent one too. Just had an ugly contract. Shocked that Edmonton didn't have to give anything up to get rid of him.
Dallas is very aggressive. Wonder who else (if any) they are targeting now.

Just as an interesting footnote, I looked at Capgeek & after buying out Belanger & trading Horcoff the Oilers currently sit with $21,000,000 in cap space! That should buy MacT a few new toys tomorrow

They have a good number of guys to re-sign and more than a good number of holes to fill. Unfortunately that cap space will dwindle.

Gagner still needs to sign a new deal, but they do have quite a bit of space. I hope they go crazy and use it all up on poor signings.

Yeah... the Oilers only have 8 NHL forwards under contract.

When all is said and done with that trade, Boston will have enjoyed the best player and the best assets, and it will not have been close.

Could not disagree more. Seguin is 7 years younger than Loui and will be the better player as early as next season with a ceiling that could make him a top 5 player in the NHL

Horcoff is also good buddies with Katz.
This is a pretty big signal to the Oiler team that the times are changing

Really depends on what they do with the cap space. If they go out tomorrow and give Clarkson some kind of ridiculous contract they are no further ahead than they were today. The Oilers need to be a better team next year, this trade doesn't make them any better.

Clarkson does fill a big need for Edmonton. Long term I agree with you but in the short term replacing Horcoff with Clarkson is an upgrade

Is he in Texas during Independence Day after getting a former 2nd overall pick? Obviously this trade is a result of excessive celebration. Feel bad for the guy, going to wake up with a headache, vomit all over his clothes and a Horcoff standing over him.

It's a deal that makes sense in $$ terms, pay a guy $7M over 2 years and have the 5.5M cap hit. Helps raise overall cap hit with less $$ commitment, he will centre their third line.
It is great for Edmonton, but Dallas isn't getting nothing. Horcoff can play, he is just at a cap hit double what he is worth...

I can think of a million more efficient reasons to waste $3 million than use it on Horcoff.

While I agree the actual salary of Horcoff can't be overlooked Dallas is far cry from a cap floor team now. They have already committed 59M of their cap for this season and still need to sign a backup and a couple depth forwards. Barring another trade, this is going to be very close to a cap ceiling team and certainly don't need to game the system to reach the floor.

Came looking for 'whoever gets the best player wins'. (Horcoff?)
Leaving disappointed.

Not unless Seguin grows up. Most likely he'll get nowhere near being a top 5 player in the NHL.
We'll see how he works in DAL but teams do not give up potential top 5 players in the NHL at that age. Obviously Seguin has some serious off ice issues or I don't think the Bruins would have entertained the idea of trading him. Be interesting to see if he can mature and focus on hockey instead of partying.
