SportsnetSpec Love the trade for Calgary. Getting younger the key here. Tanguay and Sarich, time to move on for both. Jones better than stats show

TSNJFranklin #Flames suddenly become a harder team to play against. Grit was much needed for the Flames. Feaster is a gamer I'll give him that much

RogMillions #Flames acquire Shane O'Brien and David Jones from Colorado for Alex Tanguay and Cory Sarich. Flames get bigger and younger.

Not a surprise to see the CGY media suckling on the Feaster teet. This is another bad trade trying to be made to look good.
The Jones from the season before last is definitely worth 4 mil per year. The guy is a big strong forward that had/has nice hands and a good wrist shot. He got buried on a bad team last year. If he even regains half his form its a win.
O'Brien is a ahole, but I've been saying that this team needs more of an ahole factor, plus he's younger then Sarich.
Tanguay was done here, he's a skilled player, but he was a big part of the butter soft problem last year and he's not getting any younger. It also sounds like he was unhappy at the end of last year.
Sarich was good in his prime, but he was barely hanging onto his NHL career last year.
This is a good deal for both teams.
And screw the cap hit, its not like we don't have lots of space.

Jones will be given more opportunity in Calgary. He probably won't get 27 goals, but to see him hit 30-40 points wouldn't be that insane.
So you trade a guy who's bad seasons are 30-40 points and makes less money for a guy who's optimistic season is 30-40 points and makes more money? 28 isn't a "rebuilding" age. He'll be at least 30 by the time we get a sniff of competitive play from this team.
AWESOME CALGARY FLAMES TRADE BROUGHT TO YOU BY JAY THE COWBOY FEASTER.
Tanguay's point totals were from being in a perfect situation with Iggy, first line minutes, minimal injuries, etc. If it wasn't for the flames he'd be retired now. He will not be missed.

Like this trade. Cap hit doesn't matter and we get younger and bigger. Time to chane the guard, and not having Iginla, kiprusoff, bouwmeester, tanguay, Sarich and possibly Cammelleri certainly accomplishes that.
I really like this trade.

All in all, this is pretty much a dufus for dufus deal....both Sarich and Tanguay were never going to be part of the solution. It's not going to save the Flames, but it sure as hell won't hurt them either.
Well, having Steve Smith score on his own net (in more epic fashion, I might add) didn't stop the Flames from acquiring him, so why would that play stop the Flames from getting SOB?

Since when has the CGY media stood up for Feaster, and Spec is Edmonton media.
Maybe people realize this is a step in the right direction. If the Flames are going to go with youth they need size and grit. Jones and SOB bring that, cap hits don't really matter since we won't be a cap team for two seasons at least.

Jones currently brings more to the table then Alex does. If your judging it strictly by points then fine you win. But Alex is an aging asset, he pouted like crazy last year. Played softer then a pillow and bought nothing outside of setup.
I really didn't want him around a young rebuilding team with his lack of effort rubbing off on younger players thanks.
