Just a thought.
Letang and karlsson on the same team? why not throw big buff and mike green in there too? really play some D

Ference is a vet I would love to have on the team.

I wonder if he could be convinced to finish out his career as a mentor.

It is an over-used term, but he is the definition of a heart and soul guy. The beginning of downturn for the Flames was trading him, IMO.

If you want to fill that leadership void he would be a perfect addition to the team. Not saying he would/should be a captain but throwing an A on him would be a no brainer.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to Pittsburgh.

Nothing to do with my opinion, but Rob Kerr suggested (9:30am on Sportsnet 960) that the Flames have been really open about "seeing what transpires with compliance buyouts....they believe in the coming days, there will be some surprise buyouts". He also suggested the Flames are open to acquiring (taking on) a player only to buy them out, so that they could acquire another piece, like a Nino Niederreiter at a discounted price.

friedman wrote an article today indicating that TB is looking to offload malone, without using a buyout, and are willing to give up a pick in doing so.

i'd be happy if we could get their 2nd round pick with malone, curious what would have to go the other way.

The bolded part of your post is the best way for the flames to acquire more assets. If ownership is willing, i would be quite happy.

Still think the players that are being bought out, will be "post apex" players, that probably will not want to come to Calgary. Probably should not have said "post apex" players like its a bad thing. If Cammi and Tanguay are traded the flames might need to pick up an older vet.

excellent deal i think that the price would be very very nominal
To CGY
Malone+33rd overall
To Tampa
Tim Jackman
EDIT: maybe too lopsided throw in 2014 3rd rder or something

I would call Tampa and try to do this.

Calgary: 3rd Overall + 33rd Overall + Malone
Tampa: 6th Overall + 28th Overall

Probably doesn't get done but I would try it. Would probably even remove the 33rd and still do it.

I think when they say Tampa is coming armed with a draft pick they are talking about a 3-rounder. Maybe a 2-rounder. I don't think they are planning on moving out of the top 3.

If the Flames put the 22, 6, and take Malone then perhaps.

Malone doesn't make that much $$ and the remaining term on his contract isn't infinity +1 so I wouldn't expect a whole lot in return.

I mean that's just an expense of 825K per year for 4 years. Nothing that they'll pay dearly to be rid of.

Cammy or Tangs? Preferably Tangs, but that's a long shot considering his piss poor stint there a couple years ago.

EDIT: Probably not appealing since aquiring Tangs would only free up 1 million in cap space and Cammy would actually up their payroll.

I'd even swap out the 28th pick for the 22nd if it means we get one of MacKinnon, Drouin, Jones, or Barkov.
