Assuming that it is just a one time check as you are installing (that confirmed anywhere?). And assuming that the autho server is up when you want to install it. I'd love to see the crapshow if COD won't work on release day.

People are also bringing up the family situation of a single box with multiple accounts - one install may not work across all accounts the board as you might expect.

I don't understand why people keep giving MS their money for online gaming. Seems incredibly mindless. The installing of games thing is going to sink Gamestop, which I'm perfectly happy with.

Can't see that happening at all.

You think it'll be more? What's your guess?
EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention, as per the English guy on the Gametrailers wrap-up coverage: No NHL until next year. Sad news, but it'll seriously alleviate the stress of wanting to buy a new system in November (and yes, I'm pathetic enough that stress is an appropriate word to use there).

Seems to be the case.

I would guess that the cost would be pretty expensive or else you are just giving people the game for even cheaper.
One person buys the disk and they pass it around downloading the game for $10-$20 each time. That is even worse than used games for the publishers, since you no longer actually need the disk to play.

What is the issue exactly? Convenience? Your old Xbox/PS3 will still work after this console comes out.

you have to load all games to the hd? How big are these games? They only announced the one sku (500 gigs), so i'm assuming you can drop a tb into it or something.

I believe a dual layer Blu-ray is 50GB, but I think PC games average around 10GB.

I'm not sure, but it has to be a non trivial amount. Otherwise, let's set up a new release video game disk trading thread here. I'd guess comparable to their direct download cost (maybe with a minor discount).
They also just said that Xbox One will NOT work without the included kinect. Plug it in and aim it at the wall? I look forward to when people figure out a way to hack kinect and troll people's living room.

Yes, convenience. I don't want to have multiple consoles running at the same time. I have too many cables running to my tv and receiver as it is.

Ya you're totally right, I somehow overlooked that a $5 copy charge would be a pirate wonderland.

And don't forget that XBOX 360 was brutal for not letting you easily upgrading your hard drive (unless their over priced versions). PS3 was pretty easy. Who knows if they will change that this go around.

Okay, now that I've caught up on the info, here are some concerns:
- Install games/death of Used games -Need way more information on this. I'm not going to spend extra money if I have a game I want to play in another room. What will the fee be? Can we link to on-line accounts? This right here can be a huge deal breaker for me. It should be setup like Steam. Buy a game, tie it to Steam, let me download to any computer attached on my accounts. Brutal... and a step backwards in my opinion
- Kinectbox? Why do I need to have this thing attached? My girlfriend is not going to want me yelling at the TV at 11PM if I have it in the bedroom. I don't have a kinect, but is this thing always on?
- It seems that Microsoft is leaving the "Always on" feature for games to the developers. We have seen some major fails with this. (SimCity, Diablo 3). While I don't really mind, I can imagine there are a ton of people this will have issue with this.
Fantasy sports and Halo Mini Series aren't going to make me switch. If all of the above makes it into the final product, while Xbox keeps charging for Live, I see my money going toward PS4.

Given the architectural differences that was pretty much a given, especially for full on games.
For small games, it'd be nice if they gave you Lumines if you had it on your Live account, but they'll just call it "Lumines One!" and you'll have to buy it again I'm sure.
As for "reinstall" cost, I'm going to guess 66% of the cost of the game's current MSRP. Unless each game has a unique identifier and they delete the game from your library of games when the new owner installs it, then it might be less, but I doubt they'll do that.
Are they going to possibly have different SKUs for rentals? Or is the game rental market killed off completely with this generation?

Yeah it does look like the current Shaw Motorola PVR's. I expect with the 360 overheating issues that function on this generation took priority over form to which I agree. I don't really care what it looks like as long as it's reliabile and this will fit in with the rest of your AV gear.

If you are talking retail margin, as a retailer I can tell you margin is about $1-2 per game. The money is in rebates based on sales and still isn't very much

This is pretty appealing to me. Some pretty good info in the below link.
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/xbox-one/

Perhaps most intriguing, however, is that Xbox One gives game developers the ability to access Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform. That leads to a few obvious and immediate applications: All your downloaded and installed games and achievements are synced to the cloud and can be accessed and played without interruption on any Xbox One you sign in to; stable, dedicated servers for every multiplayer game rather than the notoriously fragile practice of hosting matches on one participant’s console; even multiplayer matches that can grow to 64, even 128 participants, rather than the usual limit of 16 or 32.
|
So it looks like you can install and play a game on a different Xbox as long as you signed into your account (can't be signed into two accounts at once).
Also, having dedicated servers for multiplayer games will be so much better. Having a bunch more players for games like Battlefield or even just not having to worry about lag in NHL will make online gaming much better.

I've mentioned it in other threads, but MAG for ps3 was potentially a great game. The graphics and lag kind of ruined it, but the fun of a large map with 128 players broken down into units with distinct leadership structures and objectives made it so much fun. I really would love to play a better game like that.
