Wow - definitely a couple of fantastic games from the Swiss squad. 37 saves for Berra today in their 5-2 win.

Should we really be surprised that Canada is not running a up tempo game and utilizing their offense to their best capability.
Playing to not lose rather than playing to win.
Look at the Coaching staff they are all birds of a feather. Ruff, Trotz, Tippett.
The ice time to some of these low brow players was absurd.
Please do not have this mucker style of coaches in Sochi 2014.

The Swiss are 3-0 with all their wins coming against the big teams(CAN/SWE/CZE) in their pool.
They could potentially go undefeated in the round robins. Pretty crazy to think about.

Who is coaching this team?
Such wacky ice time splits - Taylor Hall plays 8:33, Matt Read plays 17:04.

While I agree that the time allocation is way out of whack for most of the team, Hall is a bad example, he's been brutal with more turnovers than the rest of the team combined.

Even so I agree with Stay Golden. It's like their trying to grind their way to a championship. They should just go balls to the walls offence and win these games 8-5.

And man, the Swiss are on fire. I really wish the Flames would have cleared Baertschi. That would have been a fun experience for him.

I saw that game, classic situation of swiss playing like a team and making concerted plays. Canada just passing around looking for a pretty goal... sometimes with this much firepower, they forget who's supposed to dig in and crash the net. The Swiss clearly did not have that issue.
Who knows, after yesterday, if they can beat czech republic, they have a good chance of coming first in the pool and the reward of playing canada, sweden or Czechs in the first round...
*edit, just realized the swiss played today, wow they probably can finish first in the pool now.

USA beats Finland 4-1.
I know Iīve havenīt been following the FEL in the last 1-2 years that much but still, who the hell are some of these guys playing for Finland. Half the roster is full with no-names.
Edit: C. Butler got atleast a secondary assits in the game!

They play a decent game, I kind of like their attitude in the offensive zone, but they can't finish their chances. Tiresome to watch their bubblehands in front of open nets. Game should have been 3-3 and into the overtime.

He had an assist in Canada's 7-1 win over Norway.

One pretty good guess is that Jalonen took a look at who's actually going to be available with the NHL playoffs running later than usual and decided that this is a good year to give some new guys a chance to play for the national team.
After all, he's made it clear he doesn't want to coach the national team after this year, and he can shut critics up with the 2011 gold, which was a pretty purely won by excellent coaching. Heck, I wouldn't even be surprised if an NHL team gave him a shot in some role after he's done with the national team.

Ruff has made more than a few questionable calls when it comes to ice time being spread around. Certain forwards in games they were awful were forced big minutes while the guys doing all the real work were given very little time. This includes the D core.
Brodie hasn't looked too bad, certainly not as good as he did at the end of the season but that is to be expected with it being his first time playing for Canada and playing on international ice. That said hes been decent enough thus far and should be given more ice time then he has been. If nothing else he is by far Canada's best puck moving defenceman and likely one of the fastest players on the ice.
I won't complain tho as long as they continue to keep Schultz as a PP specialist because oh boy does he look totally lost in his own zone, I mean scary bad. Cringe every time hes on the ice bad.

Did this tournament always have this many teams? Looking at the standings I was baffled that Norway and France have 2 wins each - but besides that big upset over Russia, they've beaten Austria, Slovenia and Denmark.

It's been 16 teams for a while, but they went from a 4 pool format to a 2 pool format for last year's tournament so it looks like it's bigger (at least to me it does).
