According to the Colorado broadcast, Sacco told Giguere in the morning that he wouldn't be playing against the Flames, so he did a "killer workout." Afterwards, Sacco told him he'd be starting. I don't think their players are trying to lose games, but their coaching staff is.

Avs are my other favorite team, so I follow them more than most around here. O'Reilly would be my bet for the player who Giggy is talking about (and O'Brien)
And when Matt Hunwick is playing defence for you, you know you have an awful, awful team.

Great game to watch and as a hardcore Flames fan I will take a win over a loss everyday.
-MacD played amazing. His rebound control was great and he looked like a mini Kipper at some points. #1 star for me.
-Sarich had a great fight. Absolutely beat the #### out of whoever it was. He looked so calm just throwing punches at the other guy. Nice to see out of a vet who needed to pick it up.
-Love Horak. Clearly the guy has NHL caliber skills and I'm excited to see him develop over the years. Same with Backlund and Bart. I thought all of the young guys played a strong game.

There is absolutely no way the players on the ice are intentionally throwing the game...professional athletes don't do that. However...they clearly give less of a #### than every other team and seem to be more interested in partying.

I've lost track of the status of all of our non-NHL goalies, but is there a chance that one of them could be joining the team and that this was the end for MacDonald? We're probably reading too much into a few brief seconds of him looking dejected, but it was a really unusual reaction to a win.

Unless Kipper or MacDonald have an injury we won't call anyone up. Earlier this year we had a look at Irving and Taylor so no real reason to check them out again. Our other two non-NHL goalies are playing in Europe and can't join the team until next season.

^Thanks. I know there was some talk that we could buy Ramo out of the remainder of his contract since him team is done, but I haven't heard anything about that recently so I guess it won't be happening.

It's absolutely asinine that a win in this league when you have no chance at the playoffs is just bittersweet.

Is it not the same with every league?

No, it is.
I just don't like it. I can fully see the Flames winning a few more games here with the pressure off, and rise out of the bottom 5.
It's just... the Avs already have Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly... we only have Baertschi and Brodie.
I don't know. I guess if you suck the most, you should get the better pick. But the Avs shouldn't be sucking the most.

That win last night dropped us from a 23% chance to draft finish 30th to an 8% chance.

what gives you that idea? curious
As for the game... Horak with a sweet setup on the 2nd goal. I was watching the Avs broadcast, kind of funny to hear them call JS Giguere one of the best goaltenders of all time. Other then that...... ya wish we lost, so sue me.

The NBA isn't quite as bad because their top 3 picks are based on the weighted lottery instead of just the #1 pick, but tanking is still very common. Making more picks be based on the lottery would certainly help though.

they should just have a system where there are 100 balls, labelled 1-100. Based on how you finish you get a pre-determined number of balls. Say all the playoff teams only get 1 ball regardless of where you finished in the season. Then for the non-playoff teams, 14-10 gets 2 balls. 9-6 gets 3 balls, 5-2 gets 4 balls, and number 1 gets the rest of the balls (46).
The balls would be drawn in order from worst to highest until all the balls are drawn. Then the teams reveal their balls and the lowest ball they have reveals their draft order.
Boom, everybody has a chance at first overall, and multiple flips can happen, last place team also has the highest number of balls, so multiple shots at getting the #1 ball =)

The problem with tanking is is creates a culture of losing, once that seeps in you are screwed. The young guys need to play fast and hard and gain confidence to get better. No way you go out there to lose.
I know my head says we should lose to get the better chance at the #1 pick but my heart just won't let me. No way should losing ever be accepted.

Agreed. Play hard, play smart, compete, and lose every game 2-1 would be perfect.

I am of the opinion that any team not in the playoffs should have an equal chance to draft first overall.
