Seriously though, you'll need to leave earlier than Thursday night for sure.

A lot of people drive their trailer up Wednesday night - May Long is probably the worst weekend for needing to be extra early.

There aren't any "tricks" anymore, your spot needs to have at least a fully built tent on the site to qualify as being reserved, you can't just drop a lawn chair off.
I was actually thinking of dropping off my trailer on tues and setting it up and just paying the fees for the 2 extra days.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea.

Tues might be a little much for Blue Rock, but you are better safe than sorry.

Tuesday is a bit aggressive IMO but like Madman said better safe then sorry.

If there is no fireban I can see a large amount of people doing the thursday night haul out so wednesday would probably work.

NICE! A spot popped up at Boulton Creek for reservation on the reserve Alberta site. I have been checking in periodically all day looking for a cancellation, and that was ideal. Thank goodness I have a miniature trailer, as it is a small spot.

Anyone have any good places in mind that will escape the miserable looking weather this weekend? I'm taking my kids out (including a 9 month old), and were planning on heading to Sibbald Lake near Canmore, but the highs are around 5 every day, so I don't think they'll be able to tough through that! Looking for a place within 1.5-3hrs drive.

well I know that people outside Calgary are so happy may long is nearly here

i know it's harsh to blame calgarians for the nuclear whirlwind that hits the foothills this time of year but you should really hear the locals all go on about this!!! Citidiots etc....

a typical example near Sundre:

I've always told myself to never bother booking a camping trip over May long weekend, because the weather usually takes a turn for the worse. Except this year, I decided to book something...now I look the Weather Network...rain, all weekend. Looks like I may have to cancel as well!

Anyone who books a camping trip on May Long expecting the weather to be beautiful is a silly goose.

First trip of the year and we pretty much expect snow, but that's ok - we're camping.

Camping in a tent is no fun at all, it is the worst when it's raining/snowing.

I am looking forward to trailer life now.

I love tent camping! but only when the weather permits it, something about the fresh air just puts me into a deep sleep...but sleeping in a tent during crappy weather makes for a pretty miserable night.

Just got back from sandy mcnabb, the place was completely full Tuesday afternoon with everyone holding spots for the weekend. When we were packing up I flagged down a poor soul who would have been SOL for the weekend and told him he could take our spot.

Weather was nice all weak not a sprinkle of rain and I had to put up a canopy as I had a sunburn after the first day. Would have stayed out there through the weekend if it wasn't for company coming into town this weekend.

That's absolutely ridiculous.

Can camping become un-cool again?

My husband is having dental surgery tomorrow or we'd have made some plans for Blue Rock. Been going out there since I was really little - and once we moved south, introduced the husband and kids to it, so they've been going since they were little.

FlamesKickAss, nice outfit! Enjoy the long weekend.

That's just the May long weekend though. I find most of the time you get more of the "camping to be cool" crowd on long weekends. Personally I would rather burn a vacation day and just go some other weekend. A big part of the reason for getting a trailer is being able to camp in non-peak times like April, September and even October.

Hmm... We took our trailer out Tuesday night and it was probably a bit more than half full when we left. There were definitely spots available, but I'd guess that it was sold out before the end of Wednesday.

Blue Rock, at least on Tuesday, was still closed.
