Damn, Julio Teheran was four outs from a no hitter. Weirdly enough the last Braves starter to pitch eight innings without allowing a hit was John Smoltz back in 2007 and he had his broken up by Brandon Inge, just like he did this afternoon to Julio Teheran. His line for the afternoon, 8 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K (career-high), 2 HBP, 107 pitches/79 strikes.

Players tied to the Biogenesis scandal include the following:

• Braun, who at 29 is at the height of his career and owed about $133 million from the Brewers through 2020.

• Rodriguez, 37, who has been sidelined all season after hip surgery and previously acknowledged a positive test in 2003, when testing was supposed to be anonymous. He has 647 career home runs, 2,901 hits and is owed about $105 million from the Yankees through 2017. The team might try to void his contract if he is suspended.

• Nelson Cruz, the slugging right fielder for the Rangers, one of baseball's best teams.

• Jhonny Peralta, the Tigers shortstop enjoying a renaissance season.

• Everth Cabrera, the 26-year-old Padres shortstop who is one of the NL's best young players.

• Bartolo Colon, the 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner, who is 6-2 for the Athletics.

• Melky Cabrera, the MVP of the 2012 All-Star Game. He signed a two-year contract with the Blue Jays after a positive test ended his tenure with the Giants, who won the World Series without him.

• Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who is on track to be the most widely pursued free agent next season. He has been linked only indirectly through Sonia Cruz, a spokeswoman for his foundation.

• Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez. He was included in the Biogenesis records first reported by the Miami New Times but reportedly has cooperated with MLB investigators, demonstrating he purchased only legal substances from the clinic.

With all of society being so anti steroid one would almost think that bigger, stronger, faster and able to recover from injuries quickly are bad things. I bet that in 50 years just about everybody will be on some kind of steroid.

I miss "steroid era" baseball.

A-Rod refuses to give Bosch money, so Bosch cuts deal with MLB. What a joke

The owner of the South Florida anti-aging clinic at the center of baseball’s latest doping scandal asked embattled Yankee star Alex Rodriguez for financial help after Major League Baseball filed a lawsuit that alleged he had sold performance-enhancing drugs to Major League Baseball players.

When Rodriguez rebuffed Anthony Bosch’s request for money, believed to be in the hundreds of thousands, the self-styled “biochemist” turned to a strange bedfellow — MLB.

“A-Rod refused to pay him what he wanted,” said a source. “Baseball was worried about that.”

The Daily News reported Wednesday that baseball was concerned Bosch might turn to players for financial help if MLB didn’t lock him into an agreement to testify.

“They were afraid someone else would pay him,” said the source. “Bosch is the only guy that can provide them with what they need.”

Bosch is expected to provide MLB with enough dirt to suspend Rodriguez and nearly two dozen other players, sources familiar with the Biogenesis case have told The News, including Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, who has had a target on his back since he successfully appealed a positive drug test last year.

I don't think I have ever seen someone do what Evan Gattis did last night to a baseball. What a shame that he is used more in the role of Jim Thome because of the stupid rule where pitchers have to bat in the NL. He homered again last night, a pinch-hit blast deep to left. Go to the 56 second mark as he knocked the rosin off the baseball.

Then again, in 9 pinch-hit plate appearances, he is 6-for-8 with four home runs, a double and a walk.

How many games is Ian Kennedy going to get for his bush league garbage tonight? He nailed Zack Greinke in the head. The whole thing was deliberate as he looked to the Arizona bullpen before doing it. And of course to be expected the benches cleared.

Lost in that little scuffle between the Dodgers and D-Backs last night was a curious incident in which Ian Kennedy needed to throw four strikes, rather than the traditional three, to record a strikeout against Yasiel Puig.

Dodgers and Arizona will be opening their seasons in Australia next season.

US Major League Baseball is coming to Sydney, with the opening series of next season - between the LA Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks - to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground next March.

In a $13 million coup for the state government, the opening series of the MLB will be held at the SCG on Saturday March 22 and Sunday March 23 - the first time a competitive US baseball fixture will be held in Australia and only the sixth time one has been staged outside America.

"This is a significant win for Sydney and again delivers on my election commitment to bring major events to NSW. It's estimated the matches will deliver a $13 million benefit for the local economy, as well as attract visitors from interstate and overseas."

A similar spectacle can't be predicted next year but the Dodgers and Diamondbacks will be in Sydney for six days, when they will play the two games and open the doors to their training sessions.

Sports Minister Graham Annesley said the event would "generate more than 10,000 international and interstate visitor nights to Sydney, which will help us reach our goal to double overnight tourism expenditure in NSW by 2020".

"The SCG will be transformed into an MLB field, with the construction of
an infield clay area, pitcher's mound, dugouts and additional grandstand."

Ian Kennedy got 10 games for his bush league garbage, Eric Hinske got five (he is appealing, sources say he apparently hit Puig first, he disagrees and says watch the video), and Kirk Gibson got one. J.P. Howell, Skip Schumaker, Mark McGwire, all got 2 games. Ronald Belisario and Don Mattingly got one. Those suspended also received fines. Also fined, Zack Greinke, Yasiel Puig, Miguel Montero, and Gerardo Parra.

EDIT: The Dodgers also were fined for allowing players on DL (Josh Beckett, Chris Capuano) to be on field. Neither club can have player on DL in dugout this weekend.
