The process to move him, if not the trade itself, should have started two years ago, not two weeks before he's a UFA

True. But do you honestly believe that the Flames organization handled it well and maximized their return under teh given circumstances?

sounds just like brendan morrow. UFA, waives NTC for pittsburgh...
of course, Morrow was one of their top prospects; whereas the guys we got back? no so much....

Joe Morrow was a first round pick in the mid 20's
Flames got a 1st round draft pick in around the mid 20's and two other prospects.

I don't know why everyone has to focus on painting them most negative picture.
First - that's where those prospects were drafted - it doesn't mean that's what they are worth now.
Second - If Iginla was willing to only go to one team then that would dramatically impact his value.

Drafting Sven and Gaudreau were very good moves. Modin and PLL trades were nothing for nothing. Going to the KHL to look for some help was a good idea. In fact the way Cervenka has played the last few games, I wouldn't mind a new deal for him, at an appropriate price of course. His hands were completely tied with the Iggy situation. If he didn't trade him, you would've probably been upset that we didn't at least get "something" for him before he walked away a UFA. Admittedly, I don't get his and Weisbrod'd love affair with the NCAA, but I'll give him time to see how that plays out. Hudler was a good signing, Wideman was probably over priced but still a good pickup. Its hard to say how the ROR situation would've played out had it give through, but he had confirmation from Bill Daly, that it wouldn't have been a problem. I think some people like to be haters for the sake of being haters. He hasn't brought us a Stanley Cup in the 2 and a half years he's been here, well then he must be a horrible GM. He's no Ray Shero, but he's not worse than Tambellini or Garth Snow or Doug Maclean either.

He's not worse than the three worst general managers of the past 15 years. It's come to this.

Or, painting them in an overly optimistic light?
What were these ranked in Pittsburgh's own system? Top 5? Top 10? How about 10th and 12th?
So we get Pittsburgh's 1st rounder (best case around 22, worst case 30th) and what amounts to Ferland and Byron (as comparables)?
3rd and 5th rounds isn't spin - it's fact. If people see that as negative? Well maybe it's because it isn't great?
One good prospect is better than 2 average ones.

I think it is overly negative to refer to the prospects only by the round they were drafted. Both prospects probably rank 5-7 in the Flames system now (damning to the Flames I realize). They are upgrades on most of the guys in the organization.

seriously...they gave up a 3rd and Morrow for Morrow and a 5th (Morrow was picked in the 20s)
Calgary got a first plus prospects
Also, the Dallas Morrow likely would have gone to Boston or a number of other teams

also, prospect rankings are a matter of opinion...just because some talking head who can't get an NHL job thinks a player is this or that doesn't mean he is. League is full of guys who weren't highly ranked

I hope they keep Feaster, I think they drafting has been better the last couple years( or it appears to be) and there seems to be more emphasize on skill from him and management as a hole. It seems like they are trying to more or less follow the Detroit model, which is a pretty good model to follow. Even with the mistakes that appeared to be made I would still like to give management a couple years to see what they can do, and reevaluate at that point.

well, I guess we'll agree to disagree then.
I see a 3rd liner (say 12 goals, 20 assists) and a 4th liner (say 18 points) as their future ceilings.
what's you prediction? we'll see where they are in 2-3 years...

Edit:
Thank you!

i think he was on the all freshmen team!
Anyways, I understand that it is easy to criticize Feaster...just tired of being on the losing end of trades lately...
As a flames fan, I hope that the critics, including myself, are wrong about these kids and a guy like Janko (whom I am not a fan of) does blow up like Feaster and Weisbrod say... just wish that Feaster could have turned the two players into one guy with a higher ceiling...
Of course there would have been criticism of that too (like that of Boston's offer)...but Koko has a legit shot at being a second liner. I don't see that with either of these two kids.

Lets see. He has been GM for just over two years and just said he hasn't been honest within the context of his "rock solid plan" during that whole time period. He went on to talk about how he has never been part of a rebuild. I see no reason for him to stay on as GM and seemingly neither does he.

Just getting tired of his spin spin. I notice he's finally allowed to speak more (Snet, now the radio) for the first time since the ROR situation.
Noticed he started the campaign in both interviews of throwing himself on the mercy of the fans, I expect to hear more of how "bad" he feels having to administer the fire sale on Wed, and through the end of the season/however long he lasts. Doesn't change the results, or, what the plan is come next year.
He's not done yet, nor should he be....4 or 5 more gone IMO if they're going to dump Iginla and Kipper, to make it worth it.
