I like them both and the character they bring. I think Agostino will be a player from what I saw on ESPN. I think he'd make a helluva linemate for Reinhart on the 3rd or 4th line in a few years. He should make a big contribution for our AHL team next season or the year after. As I said before he reminds me of Glenncross in his speed, forechecking and general 'jam', with a bit more awareness & vision, but I haven't noticed the same NHL calibre snap/wrist shot as Glenny. He has some offensive upside though. Solid, solid 3rd line potential.
Hanowski is a character guy with logs of jam. Has regressed a bit this season in his stats, but last year was a very impressive year for him. I can imagine him filling the Tim Jackman role a bit more effectively in a couple years. Hoping he smashes up the AHL next year.
Our bottom 6 forwards could be pretty tough to play against during this rebuild!
Agostino Horak Nemisz
Bouma Reinhart Hanowski

Has there been any word on Drew LeBlanc? I understand he's a best bud with Hanowski, so speculate he may choose Calgary if they're interested in him, which I can only assume they are.

It's not out of the realm of possibility, but there will be a lot of teams vying for LeBlanc's services. The Blackhawks tendered him an offer last season and he attended the Wild's last prospect camp. Now that he's had a Hobey Baker worthy season (too bad for him Johnny Hockey is gonna win it) I'm sure he'll be getting 20+ offers. Hopefully the Hanowski connection and the chance to get quality minutes with the Flames can win him over.

He's only a nail away from being my favourite prospect of all time.

Hanowski and 3 of his team mates grew their hair very long this season to donate their hair for wigs to cancer patients.

I would hope more that he'd be more like Moss was for us... similer physical frame and development path. Think he's got much more upside then Jackman. Besides if Agosino is our future Glencross he'll need a future Moss as a line-mate.

Good article from the Sun:
http://www.calgarysun.com/2013/04/11...-flames-future
Quote:
Kenny Who? and Ben Who? -- specifically, Kenny Agostino and Ben Hanowski, the university-level forwards acquired in the Iginla swap two weeks ago -- have an opportunity to boost their own stock in the Stampede City with stellar showings this week at the NCAA's Frozen Four tournament.
"Whether you're thinking about it or not, it's definitely a stage where you have a ton of eyes on you from the hockey world," Hanowski said. "I don't think a lot of people in Calgary have seen me play much. It's definitely going to be a big opportunity to show the whole hockey world and Calgary Flames fans what kind of player I am and what I can do on the ice."
|
Quote:
2) Impressing the Flames fanbase, or even Calgary's management, for that matter, isn't the top priority for Agostino or Hanowski this week. Both prospects have already made history with their respective programs -- the 20-year-old Agostino is a junior forward for the Yale Bulldogs and Hankowski, 22, is in his senior season with the St. Cloud State Huskies -- and now they're only two victories away from raising a national championship banner.
"I think every player is aware this is the big stage, the big dance of college hockey," Agostino said. "Obviously, this is the goal that we had from the beginning of the season, like most teams. But to see it through, it's a great feeling of accomplishment. We worked really hard to get this point and we've got two games to go."
|
Quote:
Agostino's performance is even more impressive when you consider he was blindsided by news of the late-night trade just one day before he scored the opening goal and assisted on the overtime game-winner in an upset of the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
"I woke up that Thursday morning in my hotel room in Grand Rapids and checked my phone and there was a whole lot more activity than I'm used to seeing on a Thursday morning with all the phone calls and Twitter and Facebook notifications and all that good stuff," Agostino said. "I soon realized after what was going on. Just to be a part of a trade with a legend like Jarome Iginla was a really cool thing and something I'm proud of and honoured, really.
"But from that point on, it was important for me to really put that in the back of my mind for a few days."
|
Quote:
All three games will be televised on ESPN2 in the U.S. (Calgarians will have to settle for webcast coverage at ncaa.com), and Hanowski is anxious to show the audience he's a big-game performer.
"If you're not, I think you're going to really struggle in the Frozen Four," Hanowski said. "If you're one of those guys that's like, 'This isn't really my setting,' then you should probably get out of playing sports and do something else. If you're not excited and thriving in these situations, I don't think you're going to have much of a career at any level."

I love Hanowski's attitude, he's got a cocky edge to him but seems to back it up on the ice.
Love that confidence moving forward.

Another good article, this time from NHL.com:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=665207&cmpid=nhl-twt
Quote:
Other than a passing introduction at a Pittsburgh Penguins development camp three summers back, Ben Hanowski and Kenny Agostino don't know each other.
The two, though, are forever linked.
Drafted a year apart by Pittsburgh in 2009 and '10, about all else Hanowski and Agostino had in common through March 27 was they remained property of the Penguins. The two forwards played for college teams in different conferences 1,300 miles apart; their paths never crossed during their collegiate careers.
"From what I've heard," Agostino said of Hanowski on Wednesday, "he's a great hockey player, and I'm sure he's a great kid. But I don't really know him."
|
Quote:
Agostino and Hanowski were the college prospects the Penguins packaged along with a first-round pick to the Calgary Flames in exchange for longtime captain and 500-goal scorer Jarome Iginla.
"I don't know how to describe it, being part of a trade for a future Hall of Famer," Hanowski said after practice Wednesday afternoon. "It was kind of weird to see yourself be part of that deal -- and it's just kind of a coincidence that the Frozen Four is in Pittsburgh and that we were both fortunate enough to make it."
|
Quote:
To both, the task at hand has been their focus, rather than worrying about what happens after they turn pro.
"It's obviously a cool thing to be a part of," Agostino said of being involved in the Iginla trade. "Definitely a special thing, fun to enjoy for a day. But right now my focus is on Yale."
|
Quote:
"Kenny's a great left winger, incredibly skilled, a great shot and great passer," Yale captain Andrew Miller said. "He works so hard, day-in and day-out, and he's excited to be at the rink. There's a great quality about him -- his personality and his work ethic."
Root said that if Agostino is seen watching TV, he's tuned to the NHL Network.
"He loves the game, and you can see that when he plays," Root said. "As a player, he's one of the best puck protectors I've ever played with."
|
Quote:
Hanowski missed time because of concussion symptoms earlier this season; his return is part of what makes teammate Nick Jensen call him "one of the best leaders I've ever had on the team."
"You see a leader get knocked out and get a concussion and have a concussion problem and a few shoulder injuries," Jensen said. "You look at a guy after that and see what his character is like. Is he down off the ice, on the ice?
"There is not a nick in his armor, and he just kept dialing through it. It's what a leader does."
|
Quote:
St. Cloud State coach Bob Motzko said Hanowski is "a fun-loving guy" -- and he looks the part now with the burgeoning beard and bushy, long dark hair he's grown this season. That disposition allowed Hanowski -- and his teammates -- to approach news of the Iginla trade with levity.
The morning after the trade, which was consummated after midnight, Motzko called all the players into a huddle during practice.
"I said, 'Anybody get traded overnight?'" Motzko said. "And the first guy laughing was Ben. He took it in stride."
Teammate Drew LeBlanc, a Hobey Baker Award finalist, deadpanned: "I'm jealous -- I kind of want to be traded for a Hall of Famer."

St. Cloud down 3 zip with 7 min to go in first.
LeBlanc the Hobey Baker finalist , free agent from St Cloud cannot skate very well. Calgary probably want to stay away from him.
