I don't even know what freezing rain looks like. It's certainly never happened here in my lifetime. We get hail...once a year, for half an hour? Is it even like hail?

Maybe you shouldn't have been so militant if you don't even know what you were talking about.

You don't want to know what freezing rain is. It's just the worst thing. Last year we got it weekly.

Well I looked it up, and it's definitely never happened here (telling from its effects)
Still don't know what it looks like coming down though (maybe it's just like rain?).
PS Adam - You of all people should know life's more fun when you're militant.

Haha, nice. I remember back in the day when VANFLAMESFAN was militant about his defense of Vancouver and anything media related, MMF was always leading the charge to bust his balls.
Back then I would get a huge grin when I'd see VFF posted in a thread, and click on it to see the crazy defensivness happen.
Now a days, he's a chill, awesome poster. So those days are gone. (Except when his media defense kicks in once and a while )

Yes it does.

It's been a very long time since we've been in that area in the winter, but we did happen to hit some freezing rain - drove in it while everyone else was pulling off the road, and looking at us like we were nuts.
It turned into a skiff of snow eventually.
Regardless of all that, I really enjoy Vancouver and area, when we're fortunate enough to be out there. Beautiful place.

And I don't understand the need to dump on other cities in the country. Is bringing other cities down just a way to pump Calgary up? Regardless, doesn't look good on people who engage in that.
Unless you're slagging the Canucks. Fill your boots on that, amen.

That's the thing about places around here - microclimates. So ya, good point on the Alex Fraser thing, I remember seeing that in the news.
On the microclimate note, we get less than 600mm of rain here in Victoria. 80km from here, in Port Renfrew, they get 3700mm! Crazy stuff.

Best part is not only wonderful cliffside homes with unreal views, the water is swimable in the summer.
This place is 2 minutes from where I grew up in Cape breton.

Also, bridge jumping on the Myra River. Been there? It's the one wherre the bridge is literally right over where the river meets the Ocean. It's the coolest thing, you stand one one side of the bridge and stare out at a 20 ft span river, with little cottages on either side, then you turn around and stare right into the powerful Atlantic ocean. One of my favorite places I've ever been
EDIT: Found a crappy small pic that doesn't do it justice. Haha, it's also funny what being a kid does to bridges like that. I jumped off it once and I felt like I was 80 feet in the air, and I always thought it was a monstrous bridge when we'd arrive. Now it looks like nothing, lol.
EDIT: Although, that pic did remind me of how scary that current is, where the river is pushing into the ocean as the strong ocean current pushes back. You can't tell too well from that pic, but it's basically right where you see the "ripples" just past the bridge, but they ain't no ripples when you get out there.

Odd timing for this thread; had to double check the OP date a few times.
The last week has been beautiful. Patios are open, windows are down on the car; beach was even getting a lot of people when I drove by today.
Vancouver has it's issues, but today's weather certainly isn't one.
Anyway, back to staring out my shoe box from a building owned 90% by foreign buyers & 50% empty at all times like all the other shoe boxes that are all going to drop 40% in price this year; into the rain at buildings that aren't tall enough, with mountains behind them that aren't big enough, with a bunch of homeless people & lululemon pants distracting everything anyway.

I remember when I used to care which was better between Vancouver and Calgary. Then I moved to a real city. Now it's like listening to kids argue over Pokemon cards.

So much to do and see. Obviously the cost of plane tickets is going be much more than driving to BC, but when you get there, the feeling is so much different than BC. The overcrowded, touristy feeling of BC is replaced with a laid back, breathable pace, where you don't show up to each event/destination and realize that half of Calgary followed you to your favorite lake/campground.
Everything is cheaper there, and the people (for the most part) genuinally want you there.

Good post, but don't forget about PEI. It makes NS look like a rat race. Cavendish is what 8km of beach. Spent a 2 week stretch there one summer as a kid, when we lived in Halifax.
