Just looked at the standings and I'm not sure if I'm happy or frustrated because the Flames are like 3rd from the bottom. What surprises me is that the Avs, Panthers, and the Flyers are right there with the Flames. The Flyers? What the he!!???
The Flyers.
Everyone boosts as an awesome "rebuild" team that was one Jokinen shootout goal away from missing the playoffs. Instead, because of that Jokinen miss, the Flyers rallied and went to the cup finals.
Philly isn't that good. They have cap anchors in Pronger, Bryzgalov, and Briere.
Philly should rebuild again. Too bad they don't have a Richards or Carter anymore.
We are a playoff caliber team. We really are. Trust me. We just need to look at each other and realize the answer is within each of us in that dressing room. Kumbaya. I promise we're going to make the playoffs. We just need to figure out how to play hockey at the NHL level first.
but keeping him (if he signs) means zero assets coming back for a guy that has, tops, 3 years in the tank at sub 25 goals per year.
its a huge mistake not to trade Iggy in order to get a good player 10 years younger...or a decent draft pick.
What would Iginla fetch? A middling prospect and a mid first rounder? Whoopee. The organization waited too long, or put off the decision for too long, or avoided it too long, or whatever. It doesn't matter now. Trading him will not significantly improve this team, in any kind of time-frame. The window to do so is closed.

Any return would be an improvement. I do not understand this "What will he get us, only a prospect and a 1st, screw it". Any return is better than nothing.

It has got to the point where if you just move Iginla, Cammalleri and Kiprusoff for nothing in return, it'll be better for us in the long run. We need a fresh start.

while i don't disagree that the window was 2-3 years ago, i think getting something that can help your team for the next 10 years is better than 3 years left for iggy.
At the end of the day, the choice will be easy - Calgary signs Iggy, or he decides not to sign, forcing a trade.
What is hardest to fathom about this whole thing, is that when they are on, this team is fantastic. When they are not, they are pathetic.
I don't think it is a question of talent, it is a question of not being a team.
When was this .....?

This city needs to collectively pressure this team and its management until the dam finally breaks. Change is needed. And not these perimeter, wussy moves. Legitimate changes.
I've noticed the morning guys on the FAN have already started promoting a 'blow up' on a regular basis. And most the times they've hit the issues right on the head. Although it is extremely unnecessary when that pinhead Eric Francis has to come in and put words in the mouth of Iginla, pretending to interpret his thoughts, as if he knows ANYTHING the guy is really thinking. At least show a scrap of respect for the guy. But regardless, everybody need to ramp up the message until April 3rd. I actually hope there are a few more empty seats until then just to reinforce the message.
hmm, gonna have to look up the Francis comments.

So what? they are a steaming pile with him, this aint the premier league, there is no relegation to the AHL, they are as bad as they can get, a mid level first is worth losing Iginla for at this point.

If Iginla has not asked for a trade by now I will have lost all respect for him. It's blatantly clear that the team he leads is a complete disaster. I don't care if its his fault or not, he has no future here and is keeping the franchise from moving on. Time to go Iginla, save the idiotic ownership from themselves, and save yourself the embarrassment of playing on this team.
