Irving is the backup.
This is his chance to get some games in and show the team what he can do. He will start every game until Kipper gets back unless he plays so poorly that they have to pull the plug on him. As someone else said, 2 games isn't enough to evaluate him - he will get at least 4 at a minimum (assuming that there are that many, and that he plays so bad that they have to pull him, neither of which I think is likely)
Also, playing Taylor just muddies the water further and undermines Irving's situation. Until Irving actually fails at being the backup, he is the backup, not Taylor.
