2002 He was the Olympics Best Player
2004 He was instrumental in the Flames Cup Run
2010 He was average and made a historic assist on Crosby's goal.
Iginla's accomplishments are great, but they are 10 years old.

He kinda led the tournament in goals in 2010. If that's average I'm fine with that.

How can anyone not have Letang on their team? That's pure craziness. He's arguably the best Canadian dman at the moment, and brings chemistry with Crosby to the table as well.
I hope people are just forgetting him, but is as much of a lock as anyone to make the team imo. The only defenders who might be better than him come Sochi might be Pietrangelo, and maybe Weber (who is off to a poor start this season without Suter).

I see flip already said what I was going to post. I'll reinforce, that 1stLand's understanding is awful.

I believe David Clarkson will be a serious candidate for right wing. The whole package.

I think with Iggys international resume, he gets heavy consideration. I think all that's left to be said is how he does from this point until selections. If he scores at a decent clip I think he is more or less a shoe in. If he has less than 15 goals by the end of the season, I'd wager he's closer to off he team then on the team.

Figure this is a good thread to repost the Canadian Olympic stat compilation I did:
http://www.recklesscaution.com/misc_...aOlympics.xlsx
Iginla leads all Canadian NHLers who have played in the Olympics.
Code:
Iginla GP G A PTS
2002 6 3 1 4
2006 5 2 1 3
2010 7 5 2 7
Oh and in the 2 Gold Medal games? Iggy had 2 G + 2 A.

Please poeple. This is embarassing. I was in Vancouver last week, listening to the team. Ferarro was on and they were laughing about how Flames fans were "outraged" that he hadnt put Iggy on the team. I thought, cmon, they are just dumping on Flames fans. Intelligent flames fans understand that Iggy wont be on the team. Then I come on here and see all these posts supporting that Iggy should be on.
What he has done is the past cannot be undone, but lets get real. On big ice, at his age, and with the unbeleivable young talent coming into the league, he should not be on the team.

I don't think you can overvalue familiarity and chemistry in a short tournament...Keith & Seabrook are very valuable as a pair, even if there might be a better individual than Seabrook. Same for Getzlaf/Perry, Thornton/Marleau (though I'm not crazy about them unless they are as hot as they are now).
As always, it would be fun if we could send 2 teams:
CANADA 1
Nash -Crosby -Stamkos
J Staal -E Staal -Giroux
Benn -Toews -Seguin
Moulson -Bergeron -Tavares
Weber -Doughty
Coburn -Letang
M Staal -Girardi
Price
Luongo
Fleury
CANADA 2
Skinner -Getzlaf -Perry
Marleau -Thornton -Eberle
Mike Richards -Tavares -Iginla
Sharp -Brad Richards -St Louis
Keith -Seabrook
Campbell -Pietrangelo
Del Zotto -Boyle
Brodeur
Ward
Crawford
And there's still guys like Spezza, Neal, RNH, Hall, Briere, Burns, Bouwmeester that can be plugged in for injuries. Obviously I spread a little talent down to to C2 that I'd rather have on the top team (Getz&Perry, Keith and Pietrangelo, etc.). You'd probably want a little more age balance too, as the C2 team is older...I'd still like both teams chances!

I cant handle how some people think the Oilers trio will all be on this Olympic squad. Mackinnon has a better chance of making this team than Hall.
Also thought it was comical when CBC announced that you gotta think Bieka will be headed to the Olympics.

Brooks Orpik is American. Actually wasn't he named after Herb Brooks because of the miracle on ice?
On the other hand I guess Pominville is Canadian and will be on the US squad. I wish we could take him from them.

I guess you guys mean that "veteran presence" is age. I don't see it like that.

I agree. How old does somebody have to be to be considered a veteran presence? I mean Crosby is playing in his 8th NHL season, 7th as a captain, has a Stanley Cup, an Olympic Gold, and various other awards and accomplishment. Crosby is a seasoned NHL veteran, and an Olympic veteran this time around too.

Oops..I was actually going to throw someone like Bouwmeester there (would make a pretty decent partner for someone like Letang, though I wouldn't suggest he is a top 12 Canadian defensemen), but then thought of Orpik as someone comparable that already plays with the tang.
