Imagine the counseling the survivors are going to need. Unreal.

Is Canada all that different?

Now they're reporting that the shooter's mother was found killed in her Newtown home.

It's damn insensitive. My wife almost died in a medical situation and within hours someone wanted a quote from her. We were outraged, but that pales compared to this

Ahh the usual chicken#### White House. If not now, then when exactly?

Quote:
...White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said "today is not the day," to engage in a policy debate over gun control. [...]

"I think that day will come, but today's not that day, especially as we are awaiting more information about the situation," Carney told reporters in a somber press briefing at the White House.

Carney ducked the question when asked when would be a good time to engage in a substantive debate on gun control, repeating that today isn't the time. Obama has drawn criticism for never making gun control an administration priority.

Asked about reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban, which Obama has supported but never invested political capital in, Carney said it "does remain a commitment" of the president's.

That is ridiculous. Those same factors exist elsewhere and have far less gun violence.

I don't disagree.

While tastless, it appears to not be a serious comment.

The gun culture in the US is just one reason we turned down a job offer in the US, a number of years ago. No thanks.

yeah, we are collectively more aware of eachothers' well being. While Canadians can be extremely mean the arrogance and consumerism in the U.S. is more rampant, they have more people on pharmaceuticals and their food is more processed. You will see acts of kindness way more often in Canada than in the U.S. Our social policies and higher tax rates create a society where we are forced to help the less fortunate as where in the U.S. it's dog eat dog.

the U.S. has 6 of the top 12 pharmaceutical companies in the world and are more drugged up than anywhere else

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ical_companies

to say that the situation is the same everywhere else in the world is naive

I'd agree that this very moment isn't the time to have that debate, at least not in terms of the President having it. Let's get through the actual event first. Tonight though, or when the dust settles, is a different story.

As someone who has split their adult life between the 2 countries that is entirely BS.

Collectively more aware of each others well being? Give me a break. You'll see more acts o kindness? Absolute myopic garbage.

Ideological stances not based on logic don't change for logical reasons

I tend to think not. But it sure is different when it comes to people shooting a large amount of random people in an organized and deliberate manner.
