Jay Bilas with some good tweets over the last 24 hours:

A-10 gets five teams into NCAA field. ACC gets four teams. Hard not to laugh, considering UVa had 3X more Top 50 wins than La Salle.

I'm okay with the Committee taking every little guy. That's fine. Just admit it and stop saying "who did you beat?" Because you don't care.
|
Quote:
La Salle, MTSU and St. Mary's have four Top 50 wins, combined. UVa has six, by itself. Tennessee has three. Maryland has three. UK has four.

Seeding screw-ups include (but not limited to) Pitt, Wisconsin, Oregon, Cal, New Mexico, and Midwest as toughest. All metrics confirm it.

Quote:
Montana, with an SOS of over 300, seeded ahead of Davidson. And, Davidson beat Montana head to head, played a superior schedule. Odd.
|
Quote:
NCAA Selection Committee gets a C for the job it did this year. Too many seeding mistakes, and poor selection logic on Virginia.
|
Quote:
Committee chair says La Salle won at VCU, few teams have Top 20 road win. UVa won at Wisconsin. La Salle drilled at Miami, UVa lost by 4.

I was very surprised Montana got a 14. I was expecting a 15. They didn't have any bad losses though. I think it was more a case of Davidson getting underseeded than Montana being overseeded.
Oregon got absolutely screwed.

Yeah and related to that...
How screwed did Oklahoma State get? Would've loved to pick them to the Elite 8 but Oregon then Saint Louis then Louisville? Marcus Smart is good but I'm not sure anyone is that good. Yikes.

Gonzaga HAS to make it to the Elite Eight at least this year, they're getting too much hate and doubt and an early round exit would be embarrassing. It's too bad they're too far west to join the Atlantic ten/Catholic 7 because the WCC is seriously the pits. The Mountain West would be ideal, too bad it's got football though.

Got to beat Bo Ryan and Wisconsin to get there. Sure it would be disappointing for them not to get to the Elite 8 but it isn't unforgivable if they get knocked out by the Badgers or K-State. How many times has an unranked team beaten a top 5 team? 20+ this year? K-State and Wisconsin are probably only a couple possession underdog. I wonder if it would even be unlikely for them to make the Elite 8. Stats websites say so.

I have some upset picks just from some teams I watched., I watched parts of a bunch of conference title games. Let me know what you think
#14 Northwestern State vs. #3 Florida -- NW St. plays FAST and Florida has been spotty lately. If NW St. gets hot they could land a knockout punch quickly.
#13 South Dakota St. vs. #4 Michigan -- This is a rough draw for SDakSt. because Michigan takes care of the ball really well -- a sloppier #4 seed would be in a world of trouble because the Jackrabbits are GOOD. It'll be a close game.
#11 Bucknell vs. #6 Butler -- Should be a really interesting game. I wonder if playing in a much tougher conference is going to help or hinder Butler come tournament time. Seems counter-intuitive, but they may be a lot more beat up after the A-10 grind than their players are used to.
#11 St. Mary's vs. #6 Memphis -- I'm not sold on Memphis at all.
#11 Belmont vs. #6 Arizona -- Arizona is so up and down -- they could win this game by 20 or lose it by 12-14. Belmont also played in a tougher conference this year, but I think that will help them come tournament time since the OVC isn't exactly the A-10. I just like that they played in more closer games this year.

Didn't pick this one and wish that UCLA had Jordan Adams still so I could have UCLA beating them in the round of 32. Not a fan of Florida but I'd be shocked if they lost this. All your others seem more plausible. Especially your 6v11s. Butler's lucky to have the resume they have. C-USA sucks and Memphis barely got the autobid. I've only seen bad Arizona and have never seen good Arizona.
My biggest upset is probably Marquette out first round because screw Buzz Williams and Jae Crowder. Kevin Jones should've won BE player of the year last year. Screw Buzz Williams.
EDIT: Just realized it's a 2 possession spread. Not as bold as an 11 seed difference should be.

I have St. Mary's as well. In fact, I woul've had MTSU had they beaten St. Mary's.
Really would like to have the balls to pick SDSU. You are right, they are very good and they definitely have a chance. That's a very tough match up though.
It seems everyone is picking Belmont to take out Arizona. For that reason alone, I stayed away from it. I have Arizona out in the next round.
I really like Colorado's shot at getting to the sweet 16 from their 10 spot.
Oh, and Oregon is so going to the Sweet 16.

Agree with Oregon, disagree with Arizona and Colorado. Can't wait for tomorrow, I love March Madness, although it's supposed to snow in KC horribly this weekend which will definitely screw up the usual outdoor Power and Light festivities. Went to the championship game for Big 12 last weekend in KC, would like to go this weekend too if I can get tickets. Of course I pick the Jayhawks to win it all as I always do. Pipe dream, but I just feel like I am cheating if I don't.

I will be rooting for KU of course, but I don't like their depth this year. However, Self is a top 5 coach without a doubt and that will help them immensely.
Wait until you see Conner Frankamp next year. The kid is incredible.

Ole Miss / Wisconsin game is really entertaining so far. Seems like it's destined to come down to the last 30 seconds.

Nope, Ole Miss just keeps pulling away. Looks like the 12 seeds go 3-1 in the opening round.

I had them in Elite 8. I thought after their run to the B10 final they had it. Sigh. Stupid Badgers.

They have been a tournament disappointment for years. They're expected to win first round games, that's not an accomplishment, and they should be winning 2nd and 3rd round games but routinely fall short.
