I'm on the OP's side on this. Yes, some CP'ers are taking issue with his "seniority" comment but there is something to it. If the mountain folk have seen him parking there, in front of his own home for years, than it is a strong move on their part to just take that spot and then stare him down everytime they see him. It seems to me that they are basically saying "yeah, we know what is happening here. What are you going to do about it?"
Question to the OP...why is your driveway and garage not available to park in? What are you using it for? I'm just curious as I've never understood why people use their garages for storage instead of what they are meant for imo...parking.

Do you care about your community? Given you've been there 10 years and are claiming "seniority" shouldn't you be setting an example?
Maybe they have this "don't care" attitude (at least according to you) because they don't know anyone else cares.
I've lived in several communities in my 30+ years in Calgary and I've always found the fastest way to neighbourhood peace is communication. My neighbours have come to me when they've had issues and I appreciated that.

Aren't you the lady that was going around taking pictures of poo when Occupy Calgary was going on? I seem to recall you rallying against the "protesters" via your husband on the news, on this forum, on twitter, etc. - how did communicating directly with those guys work out for you? Were they responsive to your concerns? Now picture those types of people with those types of attitudes living next door to you and maybe then you can empathize with the OP instead of being self righteous.

Neighbors are a lot different than protestors taking up/messing up public property. Apples & Oranges. I've had issues with my neighbors before, and I've had a neighbor who has had an issue with me before, and communication calmly & respectfully resolved these problems. Comparing neighbors who are parking in front of your house everyday to Occupy Protestors putting their cigarette butts on the ground, hogging public property & making complete #######s of themselves is hilarious.

Someone has to say it....
Dude, you live in CEDARBRAE its not quite the upper escelion of SW communities (give or take 3 or 4 from the bottom). So for you to go on about how wonderful a place it is except for those few people you must walk around with your eyes closed. I grew up in the SW and you can definately feel the welfare warrior vibe for the most part in ghetobrae. If you did not think you were going to live by white trash maybe you should of considered a different location. Maybe you should consider a different location now?
Rant over.

My contractor put a huge garbage bin in front of my neighbors house by mistake that will take up his regular parking spot for the next 8 weeks. You know what I did when I got home? I walked over and apologized and offered the neighbor the spot in front of my house. I could've just done nothing and he probably would've posted on some forum about what a dbag his neighbor is...but after the talk he was totally okay with it...a few words go a long way. What's with people who have so much to say on the interweb but not so much in real life?

It's not hilarious at all. My point - that you chose to ignore - was that there is a subset of degenerate immune to civil communication and compromise. It is your failing that you can't spot these guys without having to beat your head against a wall by trying to reason with them. The OP, myself, and others don't need to take that futile step of trying to talk out a problem with somebody that is incapable of coming to a fair and reasonable resolution. The same way flapping around the Occupy Protesters snapping pictures of poo only bolstered their ######ed position, whereas ignoring them would have made them go away.
If you're going to be such a hoser that you'll take a guy's parking spot then stare him down when you see him, you certainly aren't going to care if that same guy shows up with a six pack to try to work things out. Why would the OP even want to associate with these losers? I find talking to trash like that instantly draining because it's so counter-productive.
The difference here is with Occupy ignoring it was easy to do since it affected First Lady exactly zero. For the OP, he has these monkeys living beside him infringing on his space. That's why I find it weird First Lady isn't supportive of him given her penchant for nosing into these types of things.

I'm with the op... The spot in front of someone's house is reserved for them except for the odd occasion (get togethers etc.) parking your car there for a week or longer is a jerk move.

^^^ what he/she said.
Plus the occupy "neighbors" as in Nenshi and City Hall had already been talking to them for weeks and it wasn't working.
If talks in my own immediate community failed to bring about a resolution to an issue I would seek other means as well. The OP wants to skip directly to other means without even trying to talk to them.

I think nearly everyone agrees it was/is a dick move too.
Where we are differing is in how we resolve it.

Not sure why everyone is still mud slinging about this, OP has 2 options. Either talk to the guys (which he doesn't want to and that is within his rights), or call the CPA and let them sort it out.

The mudslinging is probably because jhunt223 overreacts to everything, has vivid fantasies about the lives his neighbours live, and is outraged that he can't park wherever he wants on the street because his own garage is full.

Yeah, the OP is being a bit of a judgmental dick about it, but hes pissed off. Its understandable.
There are neighbours on his street who have too many vehicles for their lot to accommodate and as such are parking in front of his house. Laws and unwritten rules aside, this is extremely inconsiderate not to mention, un-neighbourly.
4x4 hit it on the head, just because its never happened to you doesnt make it a non-issue, and just because it isnt against the law doesnt make it right.
As for confronting them and talking to them about it, thats not always easy and not everyone wants to do that, besides if you all you get back is a coked-out slack-jawed stare in return, whats the point?
Ken made a good point, try and head over there with a sixer of beer (or baggie of meth, use your best judgement) and talk to them about it. This is a double-edged sword. If it doesnt work and more official steps have to be taken they're going to know damned well who did it.

Doesn't the OP also have too many cars, since he is also parking on the street??

OP has stated before that

I don't think involing the authorities is really an option for him. Better go have a chat with the neighbours.

Holy frack is that a pet peeve of mine living in Prestwick - nearly every house has a garage behind it and yet the streets are lined with vehicles constantly. It chokes things off, especially in winter, and just shows a general lack of respect for your neighbours.
Don't buy more vehicles than you have space for. Don't keep more possessions than you have room for. It's not rocket science.

I believe hes stated that his garage/driveway is otherwise occupied. Could be parents/roomates/murdered corpses, it doesnt change anything really.
Again, jhunt is being far too personally judgmental about it, but hes the one being aggrieved so people do have a tendency to take that personally.
Separating your dislike for the poster and his attitude and focusing on the issue is whats difficult here, many are just piling on because 'jhunt is being inconvenienced, well I dont like him so he can get screwed all day long as far as we care.'
4x4 managed to separate the issue from the poster and identified the bias therein and thats commendable. He got sin binned for it and he didnt deserve that.
