This week's episode answered a few more questions. We now know why the power went out, and who was responsible. We also know why Charlie's father had that pendant, and a little more about why his wife (chick from Lost) is being held by Monroe.
I can post some stuff in spoilers if you guys want to keep up with the main plot; just in case it gets good.

I want this show to get better, I love these apocalyptic shows like Jericho and what I hoped Falling skies would be.
At least that girl is smoking hot.

you see that all the time in American shows if they want football on a TV. CFL rights are a lot cheaper to get than NFL or NCAA ones are

Some spoilers:
Why the power went out:
Here is how the wife is involved:
The other thing I will add outside of the spoilers; they did a great job in the above flashbacks of making the wife look younger. She does look to be in her late 20s; not early 40s.

so i haven't watched this series at all, but what you're saying is the biggest mystery of the show, the reason for the whole series, is something that they reveal in the 7th episode? that's like if Jacob walked up to Jack right after the crash in Lost and said "Oh hey, good thing you're here. This island is a supernatural force and you need to save it". network shows have zero patience for buildup it seems

That would have been pretty good, instead of wasting dozens of episodes on Jack desperately trying to leave the island, then desperately trying to get back.

Well not really... there's a lot we still don't know. Why did they use it? Who used it? What were their motivations? What are they up to now?

You mean they wasted dozens of episodes on character development?

If you can call it that. There were only so many times we needed to be reminded how troubled John or Jack was, or much John's father screwed him over. LOST definitely needed to cut the fat, at least an entire season.

you're missing the point. LOST season 1 was among the best network TV ever made, and aside from a smoke monster and polar bear that they never went into any detail with, nothing about the island's power was discussed. aside from drawing things out too long (i agree about cutting a lot of fluff from the show) the writers did a good job with foreshadowing without smacking you in the face with the answers until the end
another analogy would be if in BSG, they found Earth by the 7th episode. give your characters some time to develop before diving into the major plot twists of the series

Of course you can call it that. In a nutshell, the characters on the island weren't "lost" because they were on an uncharted island, they were "lost" because they had no direction or meaning in their lives. Jack wanted to escape the island, but when he finally got off, he came to the realization that he had nothing -- direction, meaning, purpose, whatever you want to call it -- for him in his old life, and the only time he actually felt as if life had meaning for him was when he was on the island leading the survivors of the crash. His character "arced" at that point.

So, right at the end of the episode a couple of major twists came up.
Not a big spoiler.....
However, that brought about another bigger spoiler:
Don't get me wrong; the show still hasn't lived up to it's potential. However seeing as the CityTV app is working again, I can watch an episode on the bus and therefore not "waste" any time.

I gave this show a fair shake, 7-8 episodes, but found myself considering watching it as a chore, so I deleted the episode part way thru and cancelled my series record.
I'm done.
Premise good, execution, bad.

I'm still giving it a chance. The one thing that is driving me absolutely crazy is their MacGuyver-like seeming dislike for using guns! Its like, you just killed 4 people with firearms... take them!
In the episode last week
I mean.. come on!

Yeah, this show just keeps getting worse and worse. I almost shut it off while watching it on the bus; it was that bad the being bored was almost a better option.
Not much of a spoiler; in this eposide they are in a subway tunnel and part of the tunnel colapses- sealing them in. They begin to experience the effects of hypoxia; while walking through the tunnel. Except that they even say that it is a 10 minute walk to the next possible exit- so the tunnel has to be at least a kilometre long. There is no way 8 people could be running out of oxygen. Then when they get to a door that is not sealed (bullet holes or rust holes), they notice the torches are burning strong again. If there was a fresh air supply further down; they shouldn't have been running out of oxygen.
The whole thing was to allow for some hallucinations/dreams; but that could have been done a few other ways.

That drove me bonkers, and you have to think that only Monroe's elite get the really good ones and they'd be carrying spare ammo.
I get the sense that if you could find a civil war gattling gun and a buggy you could conquor a good part of the country

So this last episode had some really good parts. The Zeppelin tunes really fit the scenes. Elizabeth Mitchell stabbing the guy at the end was a nice touch (maybe not for him). The hallucinations themselves were pretty good (well, maybe Charlie's was a little too mushy).
But the excuse that they are running out of oxygen? C'mon. It is a huge tunnel, there would be plenty of oxygen. And I'm no scientist, but I assume the whole thing can't be airtight. I agree they could have created a better reason for the hallucinations. The damp musky tunnels are a breeding ground for some hallucinogenic fungi, and when they inhale the spores they all start tripping. Done. Do fungi need light? I dunno, who cares, it's a more scientifically sound than "We're running out of air".
As for the firearms, if I recall, they killed some guys, but more were around and so they had to clear out quickly. That's at least how my brain interpreted that scene.
