I looked at a 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan. Fully loaded top end model with navigation. 21k. Thinking very strongly about it. Just not a lot of pep there though.

Meh, it was a nice sedan. Had everything I wanted. I'm not looking for a sports car.

Options are nice, but they don't count for #### when you don't actually enjoy driving the car itself. My advice, choose the car you actually enjoy driving the most and then add/look at the options from there. There are way too many people that buy a car because they like the look of it or like the options, but then totally regret their purchase because when they drive it it's completely gutless. Also, you don't need a ton of power, no, but it sure makes you feel a lot more comfortable knowing it's their if you do need it.

I have a 2011 tdi wagon that I really like. Great manual transmission , the high torque diesel definitely makes it fun to drive. Well over 40 mpg, and vw interiors are IMO, better than anything else in the price range.

That's good advice. This is why I'm simply waiting and thinking more so than actually buying right now.

Here's a great review that autoblog did between the VW Jetta TDI, Chevy Cruze Eco, and the Honda Civic Hybrid. They are all in the same sort of low 20s price range.

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/06/h...nd-volkswagen/

I totally agree with iggyformayor that you have to drive something you will enjoy driving, its really not just about point a to b. That means fun to drive with great handling and plenty of power on tap when you need to merge or pass someone on the highway.

In Summary:

Quote:
Battle of the Eco Compact Cars

2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco
The Cruze Eco may not use electricity or diesel, but it's the least expensive and offers a high-tech turbo gas engine, great transmission, well-appointed interior and crisp driving dynamics, which makes it the best overall package.2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
The Jetta's oil-burning heart of gold makes for effortless efficiency while still being pretty good to drive. It's an eminently practical package, but a shame the rest of the car is so dull.2012 Honda Civic Hybrid
Honda's all-new Civic Hybrid is still a worthy contender in the segment, but it's proof positive that simply having a few extra batteries on board doesn't make for a champion fuel-miser.

I would personally recommend the Golf TDI, but it's probably a bit out of your price range. Keep in mind though that a diesel will hold it's value better than a regular gas engine (higher resale), will run longer, and in the long run will save you money on fuel (as of today, diesel is around 13 cents/L cheaper than gas...).

I think you should buy a 3-4 year old Nissan Versa Sedan.

These are what I'm sitting on right now and are by far the most comfortable I've ever sat in (I've only been in Volvo S40 and C30s so I can't compare to those bad boys you posted):

So did you ever get a car? I finally got mine, and so far I'm liking it. The MyFord Touch hasn't been the ultimate amazing system that I was hoping, but I'm getting it worked out.

I finally ended up getting a used vehicle. Financing a new vehicle was not in the cards I'm sad to say, but I purchased a 2007 Dodge Charger (consider if a midlife crisis car)...

Fully loaded...12k. Will keep it for a year and then I'll be able to trade it in for a new car at that point. Simply rebuilding my credit, but it's a cool car just the same

Congratulations! That's a great car. My daily driver is a 2005 Chrysler 300 (sister car to yours) and I love how big it is (I'm pretty tall), they drive really nice (not the best at cornering, but you don't get the urge to corner when you're driving a big car like that, anyway). Very good, comfortable cruiser and they are well priced on the used market. Nice work dude, I think you'll love it.

Black looks pretty bad ass on that as well. Tint the back windows and you'll be golden.

No it wasn't and no it doesn't. It's a mexican made POS. Glad to see you didn't buy one.

I will never buy another Ford. Ever.

Drunk driver hit my Touareg last week, and wrote off her Ford Escape. My Touareg is pretty messed up, but it's nowhere near the same level of damage as the Ford.

I understand that the front end of vehicles are designed to crumple when they hit something, but I had no idea Ford designs tires to shear off the axle. I had good laugh when I put the pics up on Facebook and a pal of mine (who is a Ford salesman) said I should come in to talk to him if my car was written off.

Yeah. My wife recently purchased a Ford Fiesta. She traded in her Focus. It's a POS. We are already looking at trading it in on something else, but as we all know, she'll lose a bundle now, even though it's barely a month old. I have no idea why she fell in love with this thing, but she did and now she's not so happy.

Ford quality (at least lower end like the Fiesta), not great at all IMO.
