How many of those places will let me order two sides of ranch with my meals? That's the most important thing to consider before moving.

I was just in the US this weekend and at a nice Italian restaurant, only to overhear the person behind me ask for ranch with their meal (only to be told by a confused Italian guy that they don't have ranch). I turned around and did a full double-take. I thought it might be her. I knew it wasn't when the person had friends they were eating with, and let it go that there was no ranch availability.

I thought the only reason people moved to rural burbs like Okotoks was that those sort of rural enclaves were more tolerant of activities such as wife swapping and white supremacy.

Been here just over 10 years, moving from Hidden Valley in the deep north. Wouldn't go back for anything. Lots to do and see and aside from work, we rarely have to make the trip into the city, and even then our needs can be satisfied without going much past Chinook (GD Tiffany's). For me, from Hidden Valley to my office just outside downtown was probably 25 minutes in the morning, 35 in the afternoon. To Okotoks it is maybe 10 more minutes. Plus now I work from home probably 3 days a week so I'm actually spending less on gas/vehicle blah blah blah.

Does the chicken on the way have a basement?

Also looked at that list of businesses and I did not see a source video or a discreet boutique?

I lived in Okotoks for 6 years before moving to BC... just a few points.

- The commute sucks - but the commute for most Calgarians sucks, it's just 15 minutes longer from Okotoks. But after a few months, you'll convince yourself that it's not bad anyway (like everyone in Calgary does too). You'll say the commute is 30 minutes, when it's usually closer to 45. You'll say you use the travel time to unwind from your day, rather than say you'd rather spend that extra half hour a day winding down with your wife, kids, or friends.
- For me, it was 45km from my house to work (north end of Okotoks to Foothills industrial park). Say goodbye to leasing a vehicle - going to work and back alone was almost 25,000km/year. Okotoks feels close because you're doing at least 120km/h to get to Calgary - but it really is kinda far. The fuel bill adds up quicker than you'll expect (or admit to once you figure it out).
- Going out in Calgary becomes impossible if you want to have more than a couple of drinks. The cab ride is at least $50 to get to Okotoks. Your friends in Calgary will stop coming by - you will always be the one to travel.

Talking about brutal commutes... I feel sorry for anyone who lives in the north end of Calgary and has to commute to the south end... or visa versa.

Now thats brutal !!! expecially if you have to take Deerfoot.

Not everyone lives 5 minutes away from work here in Calgary... all you have to do is get on Deerfoot during rush hour to find the proof of that.
