If you buy the 4g model you have to give the telecoms (more) money.

US Apple store has them for $349. 16 GB, WiFi, 2nd gen.
All of the other 2nd gen refurbished models are on the US store for a same relative prices as new to the $349. $100 for capacity upgrade, $130 for 3G.

^ Aye, they don't have any 16 GB models. I assume they would here and there.

Just playing around with their various international websites, after some initial hiccups they look pretty stable and it certainly looks like stock is available. They also keep expanding the number of countries they release within the first two weeks.
I guess demand could be stupidly low, but it looks like their roll outs keep getting smoother and smoother.

I heard a good reasoning as to the odd name. If they release a small version then they can have the iPad and the iPad mini (or whatever the name might be)

With the Macs, they have a media event to announce the new "line" and then some 6-12 months later, they do an unannounced "spec-bump" to keep them at a current performance level. There's no "iMac 4" or anything like that, just an internal model number and a public "mid-2011 iMac" version reference.
My suspicion is that's what they're doing with the iPad now. It's just an iPad: every now and then it will get a new event, otherwise it will be a quiet spec-bump.
Personally, I kind of like it that way. It should just be an iPhone and an iPad.

The only mac products with sequential number designations are the iphone and the ipad2, and even then, the only numbered iphone is the 4.

Refurbs are always 50 bucks less then regular price so when they drop price of previous gen pick up the old for even cheaper. I paid 350 for my first gen using this theory. Apple Canada hasn't had any iPad 2 16 fb since Christmas though

I ordered one too. The higher resolution is too good to pass up.

My company spend is high enough that I get a discount on everything. Usually it's 10-15%, but almost no one gets a discount on new iPads and iPhones when they first come out, so the $15 discount I got on mine was a nice touch. It was really just a gesture more than anything else, but I appreciated it.
