Thames has been pretty decent this spring though, so not like it's a terrible decision or anything.

Problem is Thames Defense is weak, if Snider and Thames are equal offensively. Thames should be moved IMO....

I'm disappointed Snider is the guy sent down but he didn't outperform Thames enough to overcome the disadvantage he had going into camp.
Hopefully Thames can perform well enough to be attractive as decent trade bait, because I still believe Snider is the Jays LF of the future.

I think this is one of those minimal risk big reward type contracts. If he's healthy and can pitch decently, then we will definitely have a bargain on our hands.

@BlueJays have signed RHP DUSTIN MCGOWAN to a two year contract extension for the 2013 & 2014 seasons with a club option for 2015.

He will get 600K for this season, 1.5 for each of the next two and the option is for 4 million after that. So upwards of 8.1 million dollars for 4 years, for a guy who if he can stay healthy and regain his stuff could be a good starter. Not bad.

Personally, I don't think he outperformed Thames period, to say nothing of enough to overcome the incumbant advantage. He K'd way way way to much, hit for a lower average then Thames, and didn't walk any more then Thames did.
He did good (asides from all the K's) but not better then Thames.
As for McGowen... pretty low dollar amount so long as his arm doesn't fall off I can't see it being a bad deal. And even if it does it's an easy write off. Heck, the Jays are paying Cordero more for 1 year of bullpen work then they will the entirity of the guarenteed portion of McGowens new deal.

Snider is faster, a way better Fielder, has a better arm, had more HRs had more RBIs (15 vs 7).
In my view, Thames should be traded.

Hope so, either way its the last year the Jays can mess around with Snider as he is out of options...

The positive side to this is that we have decent depth. Injuries will happen and Snider will get his chance. In the meantime he can gain some confidence at the plate in Vegas (hopefully).
Campbell and Zaun on Fan960 now.

Does anyone else think that Lawrie is a gigantic ######bag off the field?
I love the way he plays, but the second I hear him talk or read his tweets I just shudder at the thought that I cheer for this guy.. haha

Yes, honestly, I do. But you know what, just the reality that HE is OUR ######bag makes me disregard my personal opinion of what his off-field shenanigans might be. If he was with another team, I'd probably hate him, but the lone fact that he is a Blue Jay makes me sleep so much better at night. As long as he's passionate on the field, I really don't care about his antics off it.

Not too concerned about Lawrie. He's 22, this team has been so vanilla for so long..its nice to see guys like him coming in. Bautista, Romero, Arencibia...they're cut from the same cloth, just a little more reserved..sounds like Anthony Gose is the same way.
Gone are the days of Wells and Rios strolling around, now there's some passion.

Also, not that spring training results matter..but the Blue Jays are running away with the spring crown. 20-4...far and away the best team in both the grapefruit and cactus leagues.

They've often mentioned this spring training that they'll focus more, as a clubhouse, on maintaining a winning "attitude." I'd be ecstatic if they can translate this spring training success with a great start to this season. Either way, this is going to be a great year to watch some exciting Blue Jays baseball!

Buck was saying on primetime last night, that while Snider's numbers were impressive productivity wise, he took advantage of pitchers throwing a lot of fastballs in the early part of spring training, now that the curve and change have come out more.....
Also, whats the thoughts on McGowan's contract? If he never pitches again, considering all the past/current players who were overpaid in this game, I'm really happy he got this contract - he has put in a tonne of effort to get back and I feel sorry for him, having had the injuries he's had. Go get 'em Dustin, want to see that arm make 25 starts this year!!
