So you want Canada to be more like India? But isn't that what you are trying to get away from?

It's the same reason some establishments and some work places enforce a dress code. It's just the way it is.
I don't even mind it that much, to be honest, but when that traditional attire is used to get special privileges, then where do we draw the line? At religion?
If I dressed up as Aladdin and went to work on any day other than October 31st, I'd be fired. I am required to wear a uniform.
Though we have employees who celebrate Halloween 365 days a year and they are exempt from wearing the uniform.
It's just stupid to me that's all.
But yes, you're right... it doesn't directly affect me.
Then again, neither does half of the things that EVERY ONE OF US form opinions on every single day.

I am Chinese and I totally agree with this. Why should my tax dollar go towards Mandarin Bilingual programs offered in our public schools?
If you want to learn mandarin learn it on your own time and on your own dime. It just causes segregation in the school because it creates an abnormal amount of Chinese kids.

This is Canada. English and French are the only two official languages. Pick one.

You mean a Niqab. A Hijab would still show your face and we'd be able to see your tweezed eyebrows.

What special accommodations do you feel you're missing out on? Do you want to dress up like Aladdin for work? And no I generally don't form an opinion on things that don't affect me unless I feel they're unjust to other people.

My original post that started this firestorm was poorly worded, it has been edited. I am not backing down from the fact that I would rather have my children grow up in a community where the majority of the people have similar beliefs. That is exactly why I choose not to live in Calgary and feel no shame for making that decision.

There is definitely a double standard here..trying starting a WET (White Entertainment TV) channel and see what happens.

Wow, so people wearing their cultural attire are doing nothing more than "celebrating Halloween" all year to you?

Oh I don't know... perhaps I'd rather wear jeans and a fitted shirt that wasn't tailored for a fat ____ who lives on Big Macs. Unfortunately, there is no Church of Diesel, Levi's or Wrangler that I can sign up for.
