What's your point? If you're arguing that nip isn't a derogatory term for Japanese you're simply wrong.

Not that it changes anything, but this stuff happens on both sides. My wife's brother is married to a Japanese women and half her family disowned her for marrying a white guy. When they go to visit, he hears all types of racism on the street. Granted, it is in Japanese and most do not realize that he speaks Japanese, but it still happens. There are a lot of places in the world where being white invites confrontation.

People standing up to racism, gays getting married, women working! what's next!?

I'm thinking mike the redneck will start bitching about Calgary's Mayor. Why? Because he's a minority.

Really not nice.

Are you joking? A derogatory word used against people of a certain race isn't racist?
The stupid, it burns.

Heh, I have first-hand experience with this as well (not with a Japanese family tho).
Most of the whities here crying their hearts out about racism would learn quite a lesson about racism and non-acceptance the second they wander outside of their comfort zone behind their computers.

What lesson would that be? That other cultures have racist people too? Shocking.

That there are very few people who are not racist. And in this context, I mean accepting that your daughter is marrying someone not from their own race/culture/religion.
You live in NY one of the biggest multicultural hubs on the planet, let me ask you this: How many Black/Chinese, Japanese/Jew, Indian/Black, Arab/Korean couples have you seen?
Seriously.

It's a derogatory term, but not racist. A racist comment is one that infers that one race is inferior to another. The word "nip" may be racially insensitive, but in and of itself, it's not racist. If someone were to say: "Nips shouldn't be allowed to vote in this country," then that person has made a racist comment. On the other hand, if someone were to say: "It's nippy in here," then that person is likely just being a jackass.
The woman in that video is surely a racist, but I think too often these days people confuse racially insensitive comments with being racist. I've been called a "wop" before, but no one has ever tried to infringe on my rights because of my heritage. Therefore, I have never had to endure racism. Complaining about some kids calling you "nip" when you were younger is no different than being picked on for being fat, ugly, etc. By no means does that make it right, but let's try to keep things in the proper perspective.

I'm pretty sure that lady was drunk. I like the younger black kid (is it ok to say black?) that jumped up halfway like he was going to say something.

lol I like how you bring up bullying in one post like like it's your flag ship cause, then punch it in the crotch in the next. I wish I could say that your rants are at least consistent, but well... apparently not.

I once got called out for calling someone brown. It was after a Corporate Challenge volleyball game, and I said "Man, that brown girl on the other team was really good". But then my co-worker was like "That's racist". In my head I was like "Why?" I'm simply stating the colour of her skin. Would it be better if I called her Indian? She might not be. She could be Pakistani, which would be more insulting to her if I called her Indian. Maybe she's from the Caribbean. I dunno. I don't see anything wrong with describing someone based on the colour of their skin. I'm not gonna get all insulted if someone called me "the guy with black hair." As far as I'm concerned, calling someone black is okay, just as I don't care if someone calls me "that Asian guy" so long as you're not stating it like I'm sort of tteerrrible inferior creature who will eat your children. It's all about intent really.

Saying wop is derogatory towards Italians as is Mic towards Irish. Those words are insults. Nip is not a racist word. Japanese are not a race, nor the Italians nor the Irish.
Now a person using those words more than likely would be a bigot. But I wasn't talking about that. I was referring to the word itself. So stop puting words in my mouth Smartypants.

You say that like it's cut and dry, but I actually had to look it up, and I'm Chinese lol. Apparently you're right, but the answer isn't actually that obvious.
