I'll take your deflection of my accusations of your sauce making abilities as your confirmation of such.
It was bloody expensive to eat there, but that didn't stop a buddy and I from going almost religiously every Friday night during our University years. Nothing got the night started like some Mongolie Grill.

I attempted to eat there about 9 or 10 months months ago. The faint smell of urine in the entryway was enough to make me turn right around and go to Tony Roma's down the street, where I proceeded to eat the most underwhelming and mediocre meal of my life.
Restaurants galore down on 130th though, and they have a Keg and Original Joes, so I'm happy.

Sears.
Its like taking a time machine back to department stores of the 80s. Except a crappier version of the 80s where nothing is maintained.

I like Craftsman stuff and Kenmore appliances. I always buy Kenmore appliances because if they crap out you just raise hell with customer service and they'll replace it...it's not like they can deny you bought it there.

Recordland is the greatest used CD store that ever existed. If you want a used CD, Recordland most likely has it, no matter how obscure the CD is. Everytime I've been in the store there's at least 5-10 other people there, and I always have to resist buying $250 of CD's / records. The store is just CD's from wall to floor.
Recordland was head and shoulders above Tramp's when Tramp's still existed. Probably doesn't hurt being located in Inglewood.
Also, any Shoe Repair store. Who the hell repairs shoes? Just buy new ones.

I thought San Fransisco was a dead franchise but when I was in Medicine Hat recently, I saw they had opened a pretty large new store. Funny enough, it replaced a Mongolian Grill that used to be in that place.

Was going to say this. I have had a pair of shoes repaired when one our dogs chewed the heel.
That said, there's not a lot of repeat business, or, margin on some of that stuff. Certianly not enough for mall stores to cover rent, unless they cut a lot of keys or sell a lot of shoe laces, or have some side business that provides some item that is illegal, and requires the correct wink and nod to obtain. There's a place in an apartment building between 8th and 9th street on 6th Ave that advertises shoe repair and cleaning. I want to go in there once and see if there is a crack on the ceiling like that episode of Seinfeld.
The guy in our area is in a place the size of a phonebooth though, and been there probably 20 or 30 years, so likely gets a good deal on rent.
Deerfoot Mall, Westbrook Mall have been covered...Deer Valley hasn't. A small ancient Zellers. Co-op at the other end, the requisite lounge that has VLT's as its main draw. A lottery booth, and the random mom and pop clothing/antique stores, and of course some schlub in one of those "As seen on TV" stores, who ended up buying a bunch of Ab Rollers and George Forman Grills, trying to make a margin on them.
All 3 are basically this era's version of MacLeod Mall.
+1 to retail computer stores...there's one on 9th Ave in the bottom of one of those apartment buildings. It looks like they still sell MS-Dos systems.

Is there seriously a Bonanza's in Winnipeg? I haven't eaten in that place since my days in Saskatchewan.

I didn't know they existed either, but my wife is a constant customer. I guess her philosophy is to buy fewer, but higher quality shoes and have them maintained so they last longer. I do think it's kind of admirable to keep what you have instead of consuming cheap crap every season.

If you buy good shoes you don't have to throw them out when the sole wears out. Just have them resoled. Cheap shoes are usually terrible shoes anyway. If you're young and don't believe me just wait twenty years and then evaluate whether cheap shoes have done your feet justice.

No. There is one in every medium sized city in between; but not one in either Winnipeg or Calgary.
Driving between each city as much as I do, I always think I should go in for the nostalgia. I may have cured that by a recent visit to a Ponderosa in the States. (Which was a similar restaurant.)
Worst steak ever; knocking the steak I got on a Canadian Airlines flight from that distinction.

That lounge is amazing. Its like stepping out of a time machine and straight into the 80s. I went there years ago with a couple of buddies and we thought we had walked into the Twilight Zone.
Its not just the retail Computer stores, its the ones in strip malls or just really strange locations. Theres one in Southland Crossing and everytime I walk by I wonder how they've lasted.
And the stuff they advertise in the windows! "Come on in, we've got all the copies of Windows 98 you could ever want!"

My favourite was Glendon. Last time I was there, I could get (mediocre) Chinese food, but nobody actually had perogies on the menu. WTF?

It was a novelty to have a just video game store ten years ago, but with the proliferation of GameStop/EB Games now, plus video games available for cheaper at Wal-Mart/Future Shop/Best Buy, I don't see why anyone would actually shop there.

Actually, I have always loved this store. Before the big box stores came to town, Video Game Trader on Center Street was THE place to find games. They were also ahead of its time with trade ins.
Now I like to go in and see if I can't find some old gems. They keep the best stuff behind the counter and it is expensive, but where else are you going to go to find an old Dreamcast game? Some great Cartridge NES games have turned up too.
I dunno something about that store brings out the 8 year old in me

The small Manitoba town where my Grandma lived, population 550, actually has 2 Chinese Restaurants. Only place I know of where you can get Chow Mein, Perogies and Cabbage Rolls, and a traditional Turkey dinner at the same time!
