So it wasn't as great as we remember 6 years ago, and is worse now. . . .
That's your defense of the show??

I guess they could just go the comedy route and make the guys have one last Entourage type adventure during the movie but I'm not sure it would really work.

the movie may all be set in stoneas of right now, but when they wrote and shot this season, it was what, like 7-8 months ago. Who knows where the movie's status was then.
Sex and the City ended their series on a real big happy note and their first movie was a huge success, critically and at the box office. I don't see why Entourage can't do the same.

I'm not defending anything. I'm saying that I think people are overly critical of fluff. Pure fluff. I'm not going to critique Cotton Candy on the Stampede Midway the same way I'm going to critique my dinner at Alloy.

I have to disagree. Every piece of pop culture can be deconstructed, examined and critiqued in some way; it would be disingenuous to say that Hannah Montana does not say something about our society just as The Wire or The Sopranos do. Obviously it does not say the same thing, but there is a message there regardless.
From a cultural theory perspective, understanding popular culture is just as important as understanding "high culture"; nothing is purely fluff.

I don't believe there was any attempt to critique what it says about society or any messages being sent. It's fluff in that the goal is to appeal to a basic sense of enjoyment, not critical analysis. Tearing it apart is like tearing apart cotton candy, it's not mant to have depth of flavor or texture like a gourmet meal. It's simply meant to be fun.
I think Entourage has wavered between the extremes, and struggled to decide on where it wanted to be seen, at times, but I also think that there are thousands of tools on the internet who fancy themselves pop culture critics because they watch a lot of netflix.

Much better episode - now that I finally got to watch until the end. I really like the Ari/Dana Gordon angle, she was always one of my favorites females roles in the show, so I'm happy to have her back. Things just got interesting with Vince, the suicide plot is a bit dramatic, especially for Entourage, but quite frankly they needed something bold to give Vince's story some life. Glad to see less of Eric and Turtle (maybe they can get killed off?).

I saw the suicide when he said "I can't face you like this Vince, I can't myself like this" something along those lines. Too much for Entourage though. I enjoyed the earlier shows but suicide, deep drug addiction etc = meh. I guess that is Hollywood but I didn't want to see it in this show.
From padding Turtle up and letting go of the dog to this suicide, the show has done a 360. I'm glad it's ending soon.

If it did a 360, doesn't that mean the show has gone back to its roots?
I think you mean 180.

Spoken like an academic! So would you argue that Entourage represents a return to 'ideal man'? That sense of hyper-masulinity that seems to have been lost during the economic troubles of the new millennium? A cultural reactionary swing back towards the entrenchment of the masculine ideal of the post war age?
Sooooo in summary, fluff is fluff unless you're extremely pedantic.

excuse spelling thx.
I have been a big fan since season 2. Didn't know about it but got quickly hooked and rented season 1 a few years back. Entourage has been a great pseudo fiction based glimpse at hollywood. The characters were robust and most of them walked the line of controversy always, but with humor. Very sexy slick show they created, but this season has been a dud so far, almost boring for me. If this is the direction the writing is going for this final season then for me anyways it is best that it is the last.
Hopefully next episode gets back to the winning formula that made Ari, Vince, Turtle, E and Johnny.
I want more Ari flipping out and esp the bashing of Lloyd always cracked me up.

I commend them for trying something different and actually developing characters the last few years. But season four the "lets get vinny the move he wants formula' as tired.

I've been enjoying the season...but this episode was not that great.
Was expecting more out of the Flay Cameo. Hope there is more to come.
The entire episode with title must have been 20 min max

Short episode, but it was the guys all together trying to get out of a jam and I'm cool with that. It was fun.
