Feaster would have been better off to just trade the pick if this was the final decision.

For what? A 5th is not fetching you much. Might as well take a high risk kid with it.

They likely could have waited a round or 2 on this guy, oh well, let's hope he becomes a total phenomenon!

So if this guy rocks the gym and blows up to 30% more mass with less than 2% body fat. He might be 170lbs? To compare him to Theo in size is not nearly the same. Fleury had weight lifter sized massive thighs.

5'8, 150 Pounds now. ( According to him )
And he is not even 18 years old yet, although he will be very shortly.
John was one of the youngest players drafted this year, as he was only one month removed from being eligible for the 2012 draft.
He is basically a full year in development behind Sven Bartschi who is 10 months older.
Boston College is the perfect fit for Gaudreau, very happy with the decision.

I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed 150-160 lbs, but makes the jumps to pro's being light. There's no magic weight that makes him ideal. He has a slender frame, and its tough to put weight on. That, and putting on weight will slow him down - he's small and has probably learned to deal with it, I imagine he'll just adapt at the pro's level and find a way to make it work, rather than chase some imaginary perfect weight.

And yet people used to complain about Darryl always selecting safe, big, defensive type forwards with his draft picks. Goes to show you that some people are never happy around here.

I know you're probably just throwing random numbers out there but there is no way him or anyone will ever have 2% body fat. If I'm not mistaken professional body builders in contest shape might be able to get to 4 or 5% body fat and even if they do they can't stay in that condition for long as it is extremely unhealthy. Just saying.
It is a nice change to see flames management start taking chances on small guys with skill who may someday turn offensive players. After reading what his USHL coach said about him I'm very excited to see how John develops. He has been compared to Patrick Kane.

I really don't think weight will be that much of an issue. Check the weights of Fleury, St. Louis, and hell I guess Datysuk was 155 coming into the NHL. RNH playing weight this year isn't far off that either. If the guy has lots of speed and skill it will offset any issue with his weight. I am looking forward to next years development camp to see how things are.

in terms of style... not potential.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned a comparison to Brandon Kozun yet. Are the two comparable(beyond size, weight, and draft position)?

I'm here all week - don't forget to tip your admin.
And I suppose it was more of a cheap shot than a joke - either way if a few mediocre seasons out of 12 or so averaging 150 odd yards a game makes him an NFL star in your books...so be it.

I'd argue in potential as well. Difference is that gaudreau has a much, much smaller chance of reaching that potential.

Gaudreau I believe is much more of a scorer. He seemed to be extremely keen on shooting the puck and burning them past goalies at close range. Kozun seemed to alternate between sniping and passing more often. I believe he played on a line with Broda, who did more of the scoring.

Kane has much better hands to work with. Gaudreau keeps reminding me of Dawes in terms of skill.

Kids not even 18, wait until he's 20 to be talking about size and weight. My guess is he'll probably end up around 185 5'10 by 20 years old
