I'm assuming the USN has a carrier group in the area (what with North Korea and all), I'm sure they will move in to assist, as the carrier and its fleet has a considerable amount of aid they can supply, one of the biggest things being how much freshwater they can produce.

My apartment building is about 2 blocks from the ocean, so it was a bit scary right after the big quake. But we've been very lucky and the waves here haven't gone over the barricades. By far the worst tsunami's have been in nothern Honshu, and my area is directly southwest of Tokyo. I can't see much cause I haven't left my place since it happened, but I've been glued to the TV here. Actually nobody around here has left or moved around since it happened, very quiet streets.
We're on the 3rd floor of a three story building so it seemed like the safest place to stay in the immediate area, especially after seeing people, cars and houses get caught up in the waves on the TV. The quakes happened fairly close to the shore and a lot of people up north didn't have time to get out of the way of the waves. But like I said we've been very fortunate here compared to many. Being an Alberta boy who is not programmed for earthquakes I'm having a hard time sleeping now haha. There's still little tremors coming now and then.

Yes, I believe I heard this morning the Ronald Reagan is in the area and could be used as an operations base for supplies etc. The US has offered up any help.

Holy crap, I just watched a video of that wave on BBC and you expect it to stop but it just keeps going. Cars carried away like nothing.
It's like a wall of black death, flaming flaming debris and water that keeps on coming. Wouldn't know what to do cept say my prayers if I saw that coming at me.

For as much as people like to bash the US, look who is there yet again to do the heavy lifting in what will be a massive humanitarian effort.
Good on them.
*edit* PS. Happy 1000th post to me. It only took 7 years!

It's true, despite negative economic and overconsumption views of the US they get held to a very high standard and the good they do can get overlooked.

hopefully not, but the vast breadth of this thing has many areas well being unkown at this point. We will know more when the sun rises in about 4 hours.

I'm assuming that the Americans will use MArine Amphibious Assault Ships (Wasp Class or Tarawa class) because they have huge sick bay capability can fly a lot of helicopters off the deck and it has excellent command and control capabilities.
I wonder if Dart has been put on notice

I know the population density is crazy over in Asian but that is a lot of people for something that happened less than 24hrs ago. That's like 1/3rd of the Victoria population just disappearing.

Those videos yesterday were just crazy. That water/mudslide looked like it was from a movie just destroying everything in it's path.
Hopefully there isn't too many casualities.
