Not to pick on Mighty Tytan specifically, he's just the latest offender, but can someone explain to me why or how some people view grammar and spelling as something that is just turned on or off depending on the audience or place the words will appear? Are grammar, spelling and sentence structure such an effort for some people that they only want to apply it when it really matters, at least in their estimation?
Really, I don't get it. I realize that spelling especially is one of those things that just doesn't come as easily or naturally to some, and there are other factors involved such as dyslexia. However, if you can somehow pull it together for more formal communication, why is the grammar and spelling switch not in the 'on' position full-time?

In texts I'm actually getting pretty bad with "c" instead of "see", "u" instead of "you", etc. In most other situations I try to use proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.

"how hard is it to get an email and reply "Hey Jim, I will have a look at this tomorrow when I am back from my sales trip". I hate the blackhole of no reply. Its rude frankly.
"
^I find this attitude to be highly ignorant. I dont "ignore" emails, but with the amount I receive at work, most balanced people have a basic understanding that email isnt instant communication. That is why we have phones that ring if something is really urgent.
Sending an email with the expectation of an rapid response is setting yourself up for frustration and dissapointment. Frankly its very rude too.
You are the problem, not the people you are ranting about.

Honestly, when I was reading this thread, I was actually thinking that he might be a drug dealer. If my customers can't reach me at all hours, they'll go to my competitor.

Some people get really offended by the use of abbreviations.
Recently, I was arranging a date with a woman I was really interested in, and we had agreed to meet on a Tuesday night. I was really looking forward to it, so I sent her a quick text that said "See you next Tuesday". I wanted her to think I'm a young and "hip" kind of guy, so I used "text talk" and abbreviated it.
Apparently, she was a real stickler for grammar because she didn't show up for the date, and never returned any of my calls, texts, or emails.

Quoted and thanked for truth! One doesn't have to be perfect but at least an attempt to use proper conventions of written communication makes everything so much easier to read and understand.
