Getting your entire league to fold and then getting boned in an expansion draft in order to draft a not-quite-generational player… that there is some six-and-a-half-D chess!

So this is where the Sharks will win all their games, sucks to be you Oilers.

I had to look it up, and alas, I was mistaken:
It was the previous year that the Rangers used a goalie with the best horrible nickname ever: ‘Steve Buzinski, The Puck Goes In-ski’. Nine games played, 5.89 GAA.
There were some awful goalies in the NHL during WWII. Everyone who could face a shot without flinching was in the army.

I believe each WHA team was allowed to keep 2 players, except Edmonton, who were allowed 2 + Gretzky.
And the Jets chose poorly, keeping Lukowich and someone who basically never played again.
Compare that to VGS and SEA, who got a decent player from each of the 30 teams.
(this is all going by memory, and my memory is not very good)

To be fair...if you were willing to stop a puck without a mask...good chance you weren't a coward. The 41-42 Rangers were the best team in the NHL, the next year they won 11 games in the 50 game season. Seems like the bombing of Pesrl Harbour really changed their fortune for a few years.
I'll have to do some research on the WWII era and just how much it impacted NHL rosters it seems unfathomable to think that Connor McDavid and Austin Matthews would be out of the game to serve in the Millitary for a couple of years than resume their career.

My late father was a huge hockey fan back in those days, and told me some stories. Every team except Montreal was gutted, as scores of players lined up to enlist. A lot of 17-year-olds played in the NHL during the war, as they were too young for the armed forces. The Habs were largely unaffected till late in the war, as French-Canadians seldom volunteered for war service, and conscription in Canada didn't fully ramp up until 1944.
You can tell an old-time Leafs fan, because those are the only people who want to put an asterisk next to Rocket Richard's 50 goals in 50 games. He did that during the war, you see.

Sharks normal service is resumed as they lose big again. 5-0 to the Golden Knights.
Edmonton is no good.

At this point, I want the sharks to start winning more, I want to see the Flames in 32nd place. They have some good young players like Eklund, Zadina, and Okhotiuk. Imagine they started doing well and wanted Huberdeau.... Either way, I want the Flames to have the best chance at #1OA

The last thing a team that is in the cusp of rebuilding wants is an older unproductive player owed $80 odd million.
No one wants this version if Huberdeau.
