All for it. As a citizen, business owner, tax payer, and sports fan.
I remember '88 even though I was only 8 at the time. One of my biggest regrets was not going to the opening ceremony because my Mom put cayenne pepper in my socks and it burned...so I didn't go. I'll never forgive her for that
What I do remember is almost everything else. Watching Eddie the Eagle, going to hockey games, Bobsled, medal ceremonies, the pins, Heidi and Howdy, the buzz, the excitement, and the closing ceremonies (no cayenne). I couldn't tell you anything else I did that year, but I can remember so vividly how awesome the games were.
Bring it on.

I'm sorry what?
What would cause your mother to put cayenne pepper in your socks?

I’m sure she read in some holistic 80’s magazine that this would keep my feet warm.
It worked. Too well.

Or she wanted to scalp your ticket.
She’s a clever one.

Anyways, I’ll support whatever the citizenship wants. I just hope they think carefully. These games can’t be done on the cheap anymore.

This province was even more of a mess in 1981 when the '88 Olympics were awarded.

I was all for the Games in 88 and went to a few events. It was a really fun time. That said I would vote against it this time because the economics (IOC not necessarily provincial) are so much worse than it was back then that this will just be a big money pit.

The majority of people I talk to are in favor of Calgary Hosting the games. It's also worth noting that the people i had spoken about it were from many different walks of life.

I would also suggest not putting a dour Gretzky on the back of a pickup truck for an hour. That felt very...uh, Edmontonty.

An hour is a long time without a drink.

It's been mentioned multiple times but worth repeating; the cost of the Olympics today is a vastly more expensive world even factoring in inflation than the world of the 1988 Olympics.
That's the big difference to me.
If they go to plebiscite they better have a few details ironed out. Will there be a new arena, what is actually going to be built infrastructure-wise, and what is the estimated real cost. Since we know $4.7B is likely very, very, very light and a bare bones approach.

As a home owner in Calgary the Olympics terrify me. Property taxes will be insane for the next 20 yearsif this goes ahead...
However as a fan of sports in this city and if this somehow fixes the crowchild and Kensington debacle we currently have then I’m excited...

Yeah that was a fantastic opening ceremony but Gretzky on a truck didn’t do it for me.
Calgary getting another Olympics would right the wrong of the lamest torch lighter idea of all time back in 1988. The Terry Fox hologram should be totally perfect by 2026.

My buddy had a bad acid trip, watching the fireworks for one of the medal ceremonies, in Confederation Park. Took me damn near an hour to talk him down from a tree he climbed. Always felt that night had something to do with him marrying a Coilers fan.

a linked story on the Calgary herald twitter feed (sorry, I can't find the story on the heralds website page and I can't even find the tweet anymore) seemed to suggest that most of the polled seem to want the games; however, they seem to feel differently when it comes to paying for them

Everybody wants to attend someone else’s party when it’s open bar and they don’t have to clean up the mess. Thanks Herald.

The sources of funding, I doubt, will have much to do with property taxes.
Most of it will come from capital programs (which aren't from property taxes by and large), Olympic revenue, provincial funding and federal funding.
